How to Give Yourself a Fabulous Foot Makeover at Home

Some of us don't wear sandals or open-toed shoes because it's simply not our style. Oh, but then there are some of us who don't do it because we don't want the world to see what lies beneath our boots, sneakers, socks and pumps.

Indeed, not everyone is born with naturally pretty feet, but that doesn't mean that we have to go without properly maintaining them. Just like we can go to a department store to get a makeover for our face, there are things that can be done at home to give our feet a fabulous makeover too:

feet makeover

Clip those nails.

When toe nails are too long, when they are uneven, when the cuticles are not kept, it makes your feet look tired and haggard. So, before doing anything, make sure that you clip your toenails and file them down so that they all look uniform.

Soak your feet.

When was the last time that your feet were in some water for other reasons than a quick shower or bath? All you need is to get a big bowl or plastic tub, fill it half way with some warm water, put in half a cup of Epsom salt and a few drops of olive oil and let your feet soak while you're watching on of your favorite 30-minute sitcoms.

It will be soothing for you, while also loosing up some of the dead skin on your heels and callouses on your toes.

Exfoliate.

Once you have soaked your feet, dry off them off and then apply a pumice stone, especially to the areas that seem to have thick layers of skin on them.

Once you have finished doing that, put about two tablespoons of brown sugar into your hands and thoroughly scrub your feet (don't forget to get in between your toes). It will smooth out the uneven areas.

Moisturize.

After you exfoliate your feet, it's then time to apply some serious moisture to them. You can do this with a high-end foot product from a department store, but something that works just as well is a good old jar of petroleum jelly.

Another product that works really well (and is also pretty cost effective) is cocoa butter. However, if you want to create your own spa product at home, SavvyHomemade.com has a full list of recipes for the face and body (including your feet). Just go to the site and put "homemade lotion recipes" in the search engine.

Wear some socks or slippers.

When it comes to foot care, one of the biggest mistakes that people make is to walk around (especially outside) in their bare feet. The rough ground and floor textures, over time, can really start to do a number on the skin. So, when you're not out and about, make sure to keep a pair of socks or slippers on.

Also, when you are out, it's a good idea to keep in mind that callouses usually come from the friction that takes place when our shoes rub against our toes. Therefore, it's important to buy ones that aren't just cute, but have a really comfortable fit. That's one of the most important ways to put your best foot forward!

If you have some leftover bath salt, use that to soak your feet and perfume the water with your favorite body spray. You can even slice oranges and put them in the water to soak your feet for a nice treat. Dont forget to trim/polish your toe nails so it looks sassy!
