What’s the Best Lotion for Your Baby?

Like children, baby lotions all have their own personalities, and choosing what's right for your little one may be a bit daunting. While not meant to cure diaper rash, baby lotions are important in keeping your child's beautiful new skin as smooth as, well, a baby's bottom!

Here are some thoughts on a variety of baby lotions and what we think is the best one.

The right baby lotion makes baby happy!
Tried and True
Johnson's Baby Lotion has been used by moms for generations and is proven to moisturize gently. It's the scent that most of us associate with babies -- beautifully fresh and clean.

Keeping up with the times, the Johnson & Johnson Company has also formulated a Natural Baby Lotion that is free of dye and paraben, a chemical preservative. With wide distribution, Johnson's Baby Lotions are often available at discount pricing.

Natural Oatmeal Protection
Colloidal oatmeal, a natural skin protectant recommended by dermatologists, is the primary ingredient in Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion. The non-greasy formula has no alcohols and absorbs quickly. It's also fragrance-free, which won't give you that nice baby smell, but adds to its hypoallergenic status.

From the Birds and the Bees
The makers of popular Burt's Bees products now offer the all-natural Baby Bee Nourishing Lotion Original. Enriched with buttermilk, sunflower seed oil, and shea butter, the clinically proven moisturizer has a soft scent that comes from natural ingredients like flowers and herbs. A fragrance-free version is available for the most sensitive baby skin.

Dubbed a "Lullaby in a Bottle," the Baby Bee Lotion Calming version combines aromatherapy with skin care. Lavender and vanilla botanicals help lull baby to sleep while naturally softening delicate skin.

Noodle & Boo
Named for her two sons, a mom founded Noodle & Boo to deal with the family's hypersensitive skin problems. Super Soft Lotion loads up on antioxidants like vitamins E and C to protect delicate baby skin with a shielding layer against the harsh environment around us. It's also dermatologist-tested and hypoallergenic, ensuring the lotion is gentle enough even for your precious newborn. Going beyond the call of duty, Noodle & Boo not only eliminates dyes and paraben; there are no GMOs, sulfates, or essential oils, either.

For the Purists
Many holistic health practitioners stick with the most pure forms of moisturizers rather than lotions. Pure aloe gel is available from a number of vendors including Banana Boat, which touts it for sunburn, and several organic providers including Aubrey and Roots. Many stores also offer generic brands of pure aloe gel.
Olive oil is also praised as a great moisturizer for baby, but going this route, be sure to stick to the lighter versions to avoid a child that smells like a salad!

The natural version of Johnson's Baby Lotion is a sure winner!

If we had to choose just one of these great options, the clear winner is Johnson's Natural Baby Lotion. For moms concerned about the effect of chemicals and petroleum on little ones, any of the natural products are good choices. But Johnson's has the advantage of wide distribution with economical pricing. You can't go wrong with that combination of benefits.

Natural remedies for dark circles around your eyes

Dark circles around your eyes. How unsightly they look and even your best dress and layers of make-up sometimes does not quite succeed in concealing them! Blame it on your genes or your lifestyle, but, you cannot deny the fact that these are a blot on your beauty . And they become more prominent as you age. Let’s just debunk some of the myths as well as unearth some of the facts about the causes of these ‘ panda eyes ’.   Dark circles under eyes usually are temporary and not a medical concern. You may be surprised to learn that fatigue usually isn't the cause of dark circles. Instead, the most common cause is nasal congestion. When your nose is congested, veins that usually drain from your eyes into your nose become widened (dilated) and darker.

Home remedies for common cold

Common cold is a very common malady which affects people during monsoons. (Also see the post Beauty and body care in monsoon for a monsoon beauty regimen.) It can be caused by any one of more than 200 viruses. Normally it is confined to the nose and throat although the virus can infect the larynx and lungs. It is said that there is no particular cure for colds, they are naturally relieved within a week. Treatment is just an attempt to relieve its symptoms such as headache, stuffy nose, sore-throat and congestion. Paracetamol tablets are generally taken to get relief from these symptoms.

Beating stress – some tips

It is very difficult to come across a happy, contented face in a crowd these days. Stress has become a way of life with people these days. Sure, we all need to be a little tense once in a blue moon. After all it acts as a positive force and helps us get things done. But when tension becomes a habit with us and we are unable to cope up with it, we say we are undergoing stress. Some people are simply born more tense than others. Children of over-anxious parents generally grow up to be more anxious than the others.

For a good night's sleep

Everyone of us, at one time or the other has been pestered by sleep problems. Sleeplessness could be transient and short-term or chronic. When it becomes a chronic problem it takes the form of insomnia and requires special attention. The first noticeable signs of poor sleeping habits are dark circles under the eyes pale skin, hair loss. Getting enough sleep is a must. Without proper sleep, your mind does not work as clearly and efficiently. You feel drained physically and mentally. Exactly how much you need to sleep depends on your own individual internal system. While some can do with 4-5 hours; most of us need 7 to 9 hours of sleep. But instead of reaching for a pill or a glass of wine, it’s wise to try out these time-honoured remedies and lifestyle changes.
