How to Get Thick Hair?

We all want a thick, shiny, bouncy hair as it is a very prominent part of our personality and thick, flowing and vibrant hair enhances our appearance. Color and thickness of hair also reveals the age of a person.
Type and texture of the hair varies from person to person.  While some have thin and fine hair strands, others might be blessed with thick and long crown of glory.  Hair fall or hair thinning problem could be due to a variety of reasons like, illness, heredity, or our diet. Environmental factor like dust, pollution also affect the health of our hair. There are a couple of areas you might need to consider to get thick hair. These include both our external hair care treatments and our daily diet.

1. Diet:

Our hair cannot be thick or lustrous without proper nutrition. Our hair is mainly made up of protein with a high sulphur content known as keratin. The growth of keratin is highly dependent on our food intake. Therefore it is very important to make certain changes in your diet to have a thick growth of hair. Increase the protein intake by including lean meats and poultry or soya beans and pulses if you are a vegetarian in your diet.  Also include green leafy vegetables and fruits to prevent thinning of hair.

2. Hair Products:

Hair products rich in protein and keratin can also be used to get thick mane. So the next time when you are buying hair products, look at the ingredients list carefully and select products which contain protein and keratin as its ingredients.

3. Vitamin Supplements:

Vitamins like Vitamin C and Biotin also promote hair growth. Vitamin C helps in iron absorption which in turn promotes hair growth and Biotin also promotes faster and stronger hair growth. You can also take vitamin supplements to get a thick hair. These multivitamin supplements will provide our body with necessary nutrients and minerals which are missing from our body due to nutrition deficiency which can often lead to hair loss or thinning of hair.

4. Water:

Water makes up one fourth of the weight of the hair strands and is key for silky and shiny hair. Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Water is very important for the health of the hair as it helps to transport nutrients to cells and flushes the toxins away. Water will also keep us hydrated and will keep the scalp moisturized as well.

5. Clean Scalp:

It is very important to keep your scalp and hair clean as clean scalp promotes hair growth. Shampoo your hair whenever you use styling products. But do not shampoo your hair daily as it will make your hair rough by stripping moisture from the hair. Shampooing twice a week should be more than sufficient.

6. Quit Smoking:

Regular or chain smokers need to quit smoking to get a thicker and fuller hair. Smoking is not just harmful for health but can also lead to incessant hair fall.

7. Oiling:

Oil is very important for our hair as it nourishes it and strengthens hair roots. Massaging your scalp will stimulate blood circulation and promotes hair growth and works as a good hair loss treatment. You can also use hot oil to massage your hair. Massage you hair for approximately 5 minutes but do not scratch your scalp with your nails while massaging, use your finger tips instead.  For better results use jojoba oil as it contains vitamins and other minerals which will not only nourish your scalp but also prevent other scalp problems like dandruff or eczema.

8. Reduce Stress:
Do not take unnecessary stress as stress is very damaging not just for our health, but also for our hair growth.  Therefore it is very important to keep yourself happy and drive stress out of your life. There are a number of things you can do to reduce stress like meditation, exercise and emotional freedom technique.

9. Minimize Styling:

Minimize the use of styling tools. We all know that straight and coloured hair has become a trend among people but these chemicals and styling tools also have adverse impact on our hair. You need to limit the use of these styling tools to get a healthy and thick hair. Using styling tools regularly will damage the hair cuticles and will weaken the hair follicles eventually leading to hair loss.

10.  Home remedies:
Natural remedies for thick hair won’t give you any quick or dramatic results as you would expect from a hair replacement clinic. These are some simple measures which will help you or get a long and thick hair.
  • Coconut kernel hair pack is a very good natural treatment to promote hair growth. Grind coconut kernel to a fine paste and apply this to your scalp. You can also leave the paste overnight and wash the pack next morning. Repeat this process twice a week to get thick, smooth and shiny hair.
  • Make a concoction of fresh coconut milk, two teaspoons of honey and lime juice, apply this on your hair and leave it for 15 minutes and then wash it off with plain water. Repeat this procedure once a week to get luscious long hair.
  • Conditioning hair is very important as it improves the health of the hair and gives an appearance of thicker and fuller hair. You can try a DIY intense conditioning at home by making a paste using 1 tablespoon of gelatin powder to half a cup of cool water and mix it well. Then add half cup of warm water, 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to make a thick paste of a gel like consistency. Massage this mixture on the hair for at least 5 minutes and then shampoo as usual.
  • Mix two teaspoons of coconut or olive oil with egg yolk. Apply this paste on your hair and keep it for 30 minutes. Then shampoo your hair as usual. This will act as a good organic cleanser.
  • Whip 1 egg yolk well till it foams and then add baby hair oil to it. Then add two teaspoons of water to it and massage this paste from scalp to roots
  • Add 1 teaspoon of honey to three tablespoons of coconut oil and apply it on your hair. Keep this paste for 30 minutes and then wash off.
  • You can also make a very easy paste by adding lime juice to whipped egg. Lime juice will remove the dandruff and egg will condition your hair.

Drinks lots of water! I do, & my hair is growing really fast. Also, don't use a brush on wet hair or tie your hair in tight ponytails. These things will break your hair off. Wash your hair about 2-3 times a week. The natural oils in your hair are healthy for hair growth.

Anything hair products that contain sodium will remove many of your hairs oil and any type of hair dye. Always check everything you use is sodium free and of course don't use any oily products. Also when water is treated they use chlorine so try getting a water filter to avoid using chlorine.

Try not to use blow dryers, straighteners or curling irons that often. Using them can dry out the hair and make it very brittle
