Soy or Almond Milk: Which Is Healthier?

It is interesting, isn't it? That the only mammals that drink another mammal's milk are humans. Actually, that's the basis for many holistic health experts' argument about why, ultimately, dairy milk is not the best for our health. The reasons why include that cow's milk is an acidifying protein, it's a processed food and that it produces (more) mucus within our systems.

The Benefits of Soy Milk

Soy milk is made by soaking, grinding and then boiling soy beans. The benefits that come with drinking soy milk are many.

Soy milk is filled with proteins, fiber, vitamins and minerals. Research has proven that it improves our body's lipid profile, strengthens our blood vessels, promotes weight loss and even lessens premenstrual symptoms in women.

There are also reports that indicate that it aids in preventing osteoporosis and certain forms of cancer. However, there are some risks that come with drinking soy milk as well.

Aside from the fact that some people are allergic to soy, one of the greater concerns is that since it contains phytoestrogens, that it could induce premature puberty in young women and that it may stimulate certain hormonal growth cells, therefore, putting breast cancer survivors at a greater risk for a re-occurrence. Those studies are ongoing.

The Benefits of Almond Milk

As far as how almond milk is prepared, it's very similar to how soy milk is made. Some people automatically prefer almond milk to soy because it tends to have less of an aftertaste to it. Another plus is that it doesn't have to be refrigerated.

Physical health benefits are similar to that of almonds itself. Almond milk is great for promoting heart, skin and eye health. It contains about 30 percent of the recommended daily value for calcium.

And as far as its found vitamin promotions, almond milk has one gram of protein per serving, is high in Vitamin B and there is four percent of iron found in each serving. There are not really any potential health risks that are directly related to almond milk (so long as you are not allergic to nuts).

Soy or Almond - Which Is Better?

Aside from what was previous mentioned about the lighter taste and the phytoestrogens that are found in soy milk that are not in almond milk, there are a few other reasons why you may prefer to go with almond milk, instead.

It has a lower amount of sugar, which makes it a great alternative for diabetics. It also has one of the lowest calorie counts for any kind of drink, which makes it tremendously ideal for people who want to have a milk alternative while they are trying to lose weight.

Plus, it is a kind of milk alternative that can actually be made at home, which can be beneficial both physically and financially. All you need to do is soak 1/3 cup of almonds overnight and then blend them with 2 cups of water. Add a bit of vanilla extract for taste and it's ready to serve.

Almonds are healthy BECAUSE they're high in fat - specifically, monounsaturated fat.

I would go with almond milk. Soy is not the miracle food that people seem to think it is. For one thing it can increase the risk of thyroid disease and unless you buy organic soy milk, it will almost certainly be made from genetically modified soybeans.

Almond is much more nutty flavored, but soy is also a strong flavor. Either one works well in cookies, but I've noticed that soy blends better with the rest of the cookie ingredients and the flavor is hidden better.

  9. Not too sure about soy, but almond milk will definitely be beneficial. Consumption of almonds whole or in any form is helpful for the body. I cleanse, tone and moisturize my face, neck and shoulder daily. I cleanse with besan, tone with rose water and moisturize with coconut milk before going to bed. You should also try out coconut milk...really helps in keeping the moisture locked within during the dry winter months.

  10. I’ve just recently begun drinking Almond Milk and I have to say that it is a FANTASTIC alternative to Cow’s Milk. I enjoy the flavor of it much more than Cow’s Milk (I really like the light almondy finish it has). I also think it’s a great way to get important nutrients into your body. With no saturated fat or cholesterol, but plenty of benefitial nutrients, I will find it very hard to go back to drinking Cow’s Milk regularly.

I tried Soy Milk for a while, but it just wasn’t for me. Almond Milk has been wonderful though!

Pore shrinking mask recipes from home

A face with large open pores when seen from close quarters doesn’t look so good. While it’s quite common for oily skins to have a tendency towards open pores, an attack of pimples also leaves ugly scars and open pores behind.  Even though the scars may fade away after some time, open pores appear to be more obstinate and hardly show any signs of shrinking.  Age also takes its toll by giving an uneven/pigmented tone to the skin and making the open pores more prominent. Heredity could also be a contributing factor in determining your pore size. It’s not easy to get rid of these pores or shrink them completely or permanently using serums, lotions or face packs. Even resorting to drastic chemical/surgical procedures at the dermatologist’s isn’t quite capable of giving satisfactory results.  Nevertheless, you can try and minimize their appearance at least temporarily with clever makeup and a few natural skin care masks such as these: * Cleanse your face with a mild ...
