7 Tips for Beauty Essentials to Bring on Vacation

One of the best things about going on vacation and staying at a great Hawaii hotel (if you're lucky enough to be going to Hawaii) is that those hotels often keep all of the beauty essentials you will ever need on hand. This can save you loads of time when you are packing and trying to figure out what to bring.

At the same time, bringing your own can save you quite a lot of money. Here are the seven tips that every vacationer should follow when it comes to what beauty essentials need to be packed for a great vacation.

7 Tips for Beauty Essentials to Bring on Vacation
Which of these things do you REALLY need to pack?

1. Bring your own brushes and applicators. If there is ever a battle between product and applicator, take the applicator with you. Applicators are lighter, and you don’t have to worry about them being tossed out for being 3.01 ounces instead of three ounces.

2. You might not think of deodorant as a beauty essential, but it serves a very important purpose. It keeps you from sweating through your clothing (in the event that you trade your swimsuit for regular clothing). It can also, in a pinch, keep your face from sweating too much. Dab a little bit (not too much!) on the areas of your face that are most likely to get sweaty or shiny and let the deodorant do its job. Don’t do this every day—it could cause breakouts—but in a pinch or on a particularly hot or shiny day, it can be of real help.

3. Never leave the house without sunscreen. If you are going somewhere warm, find a tinted sunscreen that matches your skin tone. This way you won’t have to worry about foundation or moisturizer because the sunscreen will do both of those jobs for you. It’s good to pack some extra in your suitcase if you don’t want to have to worry about the exorbitant resort fees, but make sure you put it in a closed Ziploc bag in case the bottle gets opened during the trip.

4. Always have a really good lip balm on hand. Did you know that the skin on your lips is more sensitive to the sun than the skin on the rest of your face? It’s true! It’s the most likely and easiest to burn. So pack some really good SPF-enhanced lip balm with you all of the time.

5. Good face wash is another essential. During the day, your face is going to sweat and, if you aren’t careful to wash your face properly each night, you can count on breaking out before your trip is over. Bring a small bottle of Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit wash with you—it’s lighter and oil-free so you don’t have to worry about replacing the sweat you’ve just washed away with new oils.

6. Bring along something to help prepare your hair for humidity. Climate control mousse is a good example of this (the kind made by TRESemme is really great). It has UV protection and polymers that coat your hair in a thin layer of ultra strong protection against frizzing and the other effects that the humidity might have on it.

7. A really good exfoliating body wash. You are going to need something to wash off the effects of a day at the beach. Lotion-based soaps are great for moisturizing but might make your skin feel too oily. An exfoliating body wash helps you feel clean and prevents body breakouts at the same time. Your sunscreen can help replenish any moisture that might get lost during the exfoliation process.

Do NOT try to take all of this with you!

The key to a good vacation is to not pack too many things. Remember, you’re going on vacation, not to a distant planet. Bring only the basics and the products that are the most important—anything else can be purchased there!
