Vinegar - Beauty Benefits

These days I have been reading Maureen Lockhart’s  “Yoga for Youth, a young people's guide to a healthy life.” and though the book is essentially about Yoga, Deep Breathing & Meditation, it also replete with yogic diet and  health tips. It’s a good read and I thoroughly recommend it to all Yoga lovers; I am reading the 1986th Edition though. (I wasn’t able to locate this book online. You may contact India Book House for a hard copy.) While skimming through the book, I stumbled upon these home beauty tips.

Vinegar

Maureen extols the virtues of vinegar. She says that the humble vinegar that’s mainly used in salad dressings, pickles etc. can also help with acne. Her suggestion is to make a weak solution of vinegar and warm water and dab on your clean face in the morning and then wash it off with mild facewash / facial bar and water. (I’d rather prefer to use Besan and water to wash the face.) The same solution acts as a good deodorant too. So if you have profuse sweating in your underarms, you can just dab it under your armpits too. A teaspoonful of vinegar in a glass of water at mealtimes will help in digesting those hard to break down foods and keep your system clean.

If your feet feel tired and ache, give them a bath. Put half a cup of apple cider vinegar in a tub of warm water. Wiggle your toes around and let your feet soak for a few minutes. A footbath is a great way to relax before heading off to bed.

Mix equal parts of cider vinegar and cold water and bottle it. Then use it as a toner for greasy and combination skin. The same mixture can help relieve strained and puffy eyes and make tiredness induced eyebags look less prominent.

  3. Rub it neat into the skin to lighten age spots and prevent new ones from forming.
