10 Great Tips To Prevent Hair Loss

Hair loss is a common problem. It would be incorrect to attribute hair loss to hereditary factors alone. Hereditary factors may be a cause for hair-loss only to a certain extent.

Just because the previous generations of a few families have experienced baldness, thinning hair and receding hairlines, it does not mean that their descendants are destined for the same.

It is certainly possible to control the extent of hair loss and thinning. It is essential to have a healthy scalp to avoid hair loss and aiding new hair growth.

Some of the factors that contribute to the acceleration of and permanence of hair loss are-

  •  Genetic factors as mentioned earlier.

  •  Hormonal imbalance

  •  A diet devoid of essential nutrients

  •  Stress

  •  Insomnia

  •  Improper brushing or combing the hair

  •  Pulling your hair often

  •  Excessive use of hair dryers, perming, back-combing

  •  Hair-dos such as ponytails which tend to pull the hair tightly from the scalp

  •  Excessive oil production from the scalp – scientifically termed as sebum. The scalp emits excessive oils due to the emotional and physical stress. The build of oil and other substances clogs the hair follicles and creates an unhealthy condition of the scalp, resulting in hair loss, thinning hair and various unhealthy scalp conditions.

Below are some tips that can help stop hair loss and keep your existing hair look healthy and great:

  • Massage the scalp daily with finger tips (not the nails) to stimulate and promote circulation to the scalp. It is essential not to scrub while washing hair. It is better to ‘milk’ the hair from the hair backwards in the same direction. This will give a shiny look to the hair.

  • Comb or brush your hair and scalp gently with about 50-100 strokes in the morning and at night. This helps break up hardened oil (sebum) that has clogged hair follicles. Doing this alone has enhanced the growth of new hair. Combing or brushing has to be in one direction only, which is from the hair root to tip.

  • While using blow dryers, always keep the heat a good distance from the scalp and hair. Avoid heating the scalp and hair excessively.

  • Avoid applying hair creams, lotions, styling gels and sprays directly on to the scalp as this will clog up the hair follicles.

  • After swimming, shampoo your hair as soon as possible to remove any chlorine residue, as chlorine is extremely damaging to the hair and scalp. Cucumber hair pack is ideal.

  • While it is difficult to avoid exposure of the hair and scalp to the wind and sun, over exposure is best avoided and perhaps a cap could be used. However, tight hats and caps contribute to poor circulation, depriving the hair of proper nutrition.

  • Sweat, dirt and grime around the rim inhibit follicle health and contribute to build up. Extreme hair loss and thinning could also be the side effects of a medical condition or medication and it helps to consult a dermatologist.

  • Strive for balance and harmony in both your personal and professional life. High stress factors lead to fluctuating hormone levels, which in turn cause excessive oil secretion (sebum) resulting in hair loss. Stress can be dealt with in many ways, most notably through exercise, adequate sleep, healthy diet and techniques like relaxation, exercises, deep breathing and yoga.

  • Pregnancy, nursing, menopause or even birth control medication cold cause constant changing factors on your nutritional needs and hormonal levels which contribute to hair loss.

  • Last but not the least, it is necessary to avoid “crash and fad” diets.

Proper nutritious meals along with vitamin and mineral supplements are key factors for healthy hair and skin.

Follow these tips to avoid hair loss and also help your hair look great and shiny that you would want to flaunt it.

To tackle a problem you first have to get to the root of it.Hair loss can be due to several reasons.
    1) Stress usually causes hair fall.
If you are too stressed out at work you should buy a book of Yoga and look for some relaxation techniques which will calm you down and reduce stress.2) dandruff issues
Dandruff is basically an infection of the scalp accompanied by white flakes that appear in your hair. If you have dandruff then you can use curd in your hair or you can try some anti-dandruff shampoos available in the market. Go for a good brand. Remember - shampoos that have strong perfumes in them are not good for the hair. Go for a mild anti dandruff shampoo like Dove or something. You can also put some Amla juice in your hair. You must oil your hair once a week. When your hair is well oiled, use a wide toothed comb and comb your hair backwards to increase the blood circulation so that your hair growth increases.Remember to always keep your hair clean. Sweat and other things cause your scalp to collect dust from the environment. Wash your hair with a good shampoo at least 3 times a week. Not more than that otherwise your natural oils will dry up.

Hair fall can also be caused by colouring or constant heat. Do you colour or style your hair very often ? Remember, blow drying and colouring damage the root, scalp and the hair shaft so avoid all that if you wan your hair to be healthy.

COPPER stops hair from falling. Studies show that the copper content in the blood serum of people with falling hair is less than normal. Different types of alopecia (falling hair) are seen to have a deficiency of this important trace element. Include small quantities of nuts, especially cashews and peanuts, seeds, whole milk and beans in your diet as these contain minute but important amounts of copper.

The important reason for perceived hair fall is breakage due to dryness & poor grooming. Poor nutrition & lack of time to look after the hair properly promotes dryness, brittleness & breakage.
Another reason could be dandruff induced by stress, poor hygiene or fungal infections, which can then lead to hair loss.

Well it depends on what type of hair loss you have. If your hair loss is caused my normal "shedding phase" then you just have to wait for that to pass and your hair will grow back. If it is due to over processing then it is good to cut off the damage because hair split upwards from the ends and then break. In that case you can also use a good weekly deep conditioner like mayonnaise and 1 egg under a plastic cap for 1 hour. Organic root stimulator works really good. If your hair loss is coming form the scalp then it can be caused by stress, dieting and lack of proper nutrition like protein, water, iron, zinc and other important vitamins. You can try biotin it is good for your hair skin and nails. Shenmin works really good too you can google shenmin for women. I used it a few years ago and it has great results.

Take a tablespoon of black seeds(kalonji) and grind them in a coffee grinder and add them to the bottle of olive oil. Use this mixture on your scalp and hair to promote hair growth. Massage into your scalp for a good 5-10 minutes or more. Then leave it on for at least 2 hours before you shampoo. You may purchase black seeds(kalonji) at any Indian or Middle eastern grocery store.
