Protect Your Lips from the Sun
Exposure to UV rays of sun is one of the potential causes of cold sores and you can easily prevent that by covering your lips with a sunscreen lotion. There are certain sunscreen products that are particularly developed for protecting the lips. A sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or higher is ideal for the purpose. Applying a lipstick that contains sunscreen is also another way to protect your lips from the sun.

Lemon Balm
Lemon balm is a proven medication for a variety of sores and blisters. This mint family herb is well known for great anti-viral properties. It also works superb to reduce the inflammation on skin and other parts of body. For cold sores, this and anti-inflammatory properties can be hugely beneficial to keep the sore in check and cure it gradually. Apply lemon balm on your cold sore just with a cotton ball soaked in lemon balm.

Green Tea

The huge antioxidant content of green tea makes it ideal for boosting your immune system from within. Drinking a few cups of green tea regularly you can boost your immune system to fight the responsible virus for cold sore. Applying a wet tea bag in the area of the cold sore can be another beneficial medication, because green tea is also known for anti-viral properties. After soaking a green tea bag in hot water and cooling it down, apply it on the cold sore for 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat the procedure in every 1 or 2 hours to get faster relief.

Cornstarch Paste
Another smooth natural source of relief for the cold sores is the cornstarch paste. The virus of the cold sores always thrives in an acidic condition and cornstarch paste just prevents this. It actually neutralizes the acidic condition in the sore area and helps to create an alkaline state and thereby provides relief from the itchy pain of the sore area. To feel quick and assured relief from the itchy pain of cold sore just apply some cornstarch paste on that area.

Grab Some Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera is the herb which is well known for providing relief to all sorts of skin irritations and problems. Aloe Vera has strong bacteria fighting properties and it also helps in reducing the inflammation on the sore area. Applying some Aloe Vera gel on the sore area and skin you can actually restrict the virus from spreading.

Besides these natural remedies avoiding exposure to direct heat is extremely important for curing the problem. Hot and humid condition makes it ideal for any contagious virus to grow, spread and you should stay clear of that. Avoid acidic foods as they create ideal condition for the virus to thrive. Lastly maintain absolute cleanliness to prevent the virus from spreading.
