Fruit juices for a cool summer

Though torrential rains have lashed most parts of South India, some parts of North India are still in the throes of the hot summer. Whether it is to quench your thirst or for a celebration, a cool refreshing drink is always welcome in summer.Benefits of drinking juices in summer

In summer, juices not only help in overcoming fatigue but also boost energy and work wonders in a state of dehydration. Moreover they are rich in various kinds of vitamins, minerals and enzymes, low in calories and boost the immune system. Water melons, juicy grapes, oranges, mangoes and melting pears are all filled with the goodness of summer. Mango, the king of the fruits is the hot favorite and a ‘welcome guest’ of this season. So make the most of this fruit while it is there.

Drink cool refreshing juices in summer
Go ahead & beat the heat by drinking gallons of fresh fruit juices and feel cool from the inside also. Do remember that fresh fruit juices are a hundred times tastier, healthier and cheaper than bottled aerated drinks.
*Start your day with a glass of orange juice. It not only contains vitamin C but is also loaded in antioxidants. If oranges are not available, you may drink vegetable juice comprising carrot, beetroot, and tomato. Add to it a dash of lemon juice, salt and rock salt to keep you energetic throughout the day.
* Pineapple juice is also a good source of vitamin C and helps in digestion. Steamed and raw peaches and apples also make healthy and tasty fruit juices.
* Chilled water-melon, cucumber and grape juices are simply made for the afternoons and early evenings when the heat is at its worst. Add to the juice chunks of melons and grapes and your energizing health drink is complete.
* Grape juice not only helps in curing constipation but also is rich in Vitamin C.
* Keep in readiness, fresh lime concentrates and green mango panna which are reputed to ward off heat stroke and exhaustion. These can refresh you after a workout or a walk. Preparation of mango panna is very simple. Extract pulp of boiled raw mangoes. Add jaggery (or sugar) to it. Whip up in a blender. Add salt, pepper & cardamoms to taste. Chill & serve cold.
* Sweet or salted lassi made of thinned buttermilk is an ideal summer refreshener. A jug of lassi should find a place in your refrigerator every day in summer.

Try out new juice recipes

So, go natural and load up on juice instead of the usual coffee, tea or cola drinks in summer.See also: Some tips for summer / Cool ways to beauty in summer / Makeup tips for summer / Sunscreen-the necessity of summer / Eye care in summer / Baths / All about deodorants and anti-perspirants

Fresh fruits are always good for health. But of course, instead of the ready-made market-available fruit juices, one should make it at home. Because these so-called canned juices are just empty calories, full of sugar, preservatives and chemicals.

    Fruits contain the following nutrients:
Carbohydrates in the form of simple sugars, particularly fructose and glucose. These give the super sweetness to fruits and are almost pre-digested and easily absorbed in the body.
Vitamin C: Fruits are valued especially for their Vitamin C content because the vitamin is present in its natural form along with other useful chemicals, the bio-flavonoids, that complete the spectrum.
