Prevent hair-loss part-1

Hair loss is a common problem. It would be incorrect to attribute hair loss to hereditary factors alone. Hereditary factors may be a cause for hair-loss only to a certain extent. Just because the previous generations of a few families have experienced baldness, thinning hair and receding hairlines, it does not mean that their descendents are destined for the same.

It is certainly possible to control the extent of hair loss and thinning. It is essential to have a healthy scalp to avoid hair loss and aiding new hair growth.

Some of the factors that contribute to the acceleration of and permanence of hair loss are-
* Genetic factors as mentioned earlier.
* Hormonal imbalance
* A diet devoid of essential nutrients
* Stress
* Insomnia
* Improper brushing or combing the hair
* Pulling your hair often
* Excessive use of hair dryers, perming, back-combing
* Hair-dos such as ponytails which tend to pull the hair tightly from the scalp
* Excessive oil production from the scalp – scientifically termed as sebum.
The scalp emits excessive oils due to the emotional and physical stress. The build of oil and other substances clogs the hair follicles and creates an unhealthy condition of the scalp, resulting in hair loss, thinning hair and various unhealthy scalp conditions.

  3. The Hair Growth Cycle
    A healthy follicle repeatedly goes through three phases in its life: growing, transitional, and resting. -->
    Growing Phase
    In a normal scalp, about 90% of hair follicles are growing at any one time. Each follicle stays in the growing phase for two to six years. How long an individual hair grows depends on how long it is in the growing phase. After the growing phase, hair enters a brief transitional phase.
    Transitional Phase -->
    The transitional phase typically lasts two to three weeks. Less than 1% of your hair is in this phase at any one time.
    Resting Phase -->
    Hair follicles rest for two to three months. At the end of the resting phase, the follicle "sheds" its hair. Then the growing phase begins again.

    Use thickening cleansing agents. There are many shampoos and conditioners on the market that are geared towards helping an individual thicken her hair. They can be bought at hair salons or some drug stores. Nioxin and Rogaine are among the most popular ones. The key to success with these products is using them regularly.

    Stress can definitely cause hair loss. It's called alopesia nervosa. The good news is that it's temporary. If you can't avoid a stressful situation, your doctor can prescribe something to calm you down until it's over. You can also use volumizers for your hair or take special vitamins. Health stores carry vitamins that stimulate hair growth.

    Although the exact causes of baldness are unknown, heredity, hormones and age are contributing factors. Unlike hair loss resulting from disease or other non-hereditary factors, hair loss due to common baldness is permanent. Indicative symptoms of baldness include moving of hairline backwards, excessive fall of hair during comb or bathing, hair easily comes out from the head even with plucking, one can find abandon quantity of hairs on blanket, pillow and bed sheets. To prevent hair loss nutritious diet and good hair care is required.

    Various factors such as stress, poor nutrition, menopause and the post pregnancy period often tend to send a large number of hair into the resting and subsequently the rapid shedding phase. Stress could be physical, mental or psychological. Some examples are exams, new job, new marriage, confrontations in the family etc…The percentage of shedding hair can increase to as much as 70 -80%. This is the reason why all these women are experiencing increased and sudden hair fall

    Wet hair are subjected to get damaged easily. To prevent that, it should be washed gently. If you have long hair, try not to mess it up while washing - it should be much easier to brush it out if hairs are not disheveled, so the hair structure won't be harmed severely

  29. Growing hair has nothing to do with how you treat your hair. Treatment only affects how good your hair looks and feels. The truth is that once the hair leaves the scalp it is no longer “alive” and so, while you need to take steps to keep your hair healthy, efforts to make it grow should be focused on the scalp
