Australian Homemade Beauty Secrets

In this post, Melissa from facetwister.com shares her favourite Homemade Beauty Tips and Tricks from Australia:

Austalian Beauty Secrets

1. Tea tree oil is great for the skin, acne, or dry scalp. Simply add to cleanser or shampoo. You only need a few drops so an ounce can really go a long way. Tea tree oil can also be used for skin irritations such as scratches or cuts. It also works to kill lice as well.
2. Mix honey with warm water and pour over wet hair and let dry for shiny, frizz-free hair all day. Believe me this achieves approximately the same results as moroccan oil and it is so much cheaper than all those shampoos and hair masks that only keep the frizzies away for a few hours at best.
3. Mix eggs and mayonnaise, leave on wet hair for five minutes for shine and body. Lemons mixed with water and sprayed on wet hair then dried in the sun can lighten hair. It can do the same for dark spots on your skin as well.
4. To remove hair build-up apply beer and rinse. Vinegar can be used as well. Just depends on what you want to smell like, a pub or a salad.
5. Yarrow extract prevents stretch marks because of its extreme moisturizing properties.
6. Tamanu Oil speeds up healing and healthy skin growth. Tamanu oil can be used on skin similarly to tea tree oil for cuts and scraps.
7. Sage treats oily skin, swelling, ulcers and bleeding. You can use sage as a rub or a soak depending on the application.
8. Homemade Chocolate Facial Mask:
Ingredients:
¼ cup cocoa powder, sifted
¼ cup honey
¼ cup natural yoghurt – not flavoured
¼ cup oats, finely chopped
Method:
Mix all the ingredients together to form a smooth paste.
Let it stand for 5 minutes to thicken slightly.
Apply the chocolate face mask generously to your clean and dry face and neck areas.
Lightly massage in avoiding the eye and lip areas. Leave on for 15 minutes then rinse with warm water. Pat dry and apply a moisturiser.
Exfoliate, retain moisture and tone your skin all at once with this homemade recipe.
Do not eat this recipe. Have a side of M & M's in case the mask gives you a craving.

These next couple of recipes I actually got from an Australian Drag Queen website. We have sooo much to learn from them! They always have great make-up application tips.
9. Oatmeal Scrub
Ingredients:
2 tsp oatmeal
1 tsp bicarbonate soda
warm water to make paste
Method:
Combine ingredients to make paste, apply to skin and face and rub gently to exfoliate. Rinse off.

10. “Better than Botox” Mask
Ingredients:
½ Lemon
1 egg white
Squeeze half a lemon and mix the juice with one beaten egg white. Apply on face, leave on overnight and wash mask off with warm water.

11. Moisturising Avocado Mask
Ingredients:
1 Avocado
2 tsp yoghurt (with honey for anti-bacterial qualities)
Method:
Mash meat of avocado into a creamy texture. Add yoghurt. Apply to face for 15 – 20 minutes and wash off with cold water to close pores.

Pore shrinking mask recipes from home

A face with large open pores when seen from close quarters doesn’t look so good. While it’s quite common for oily skins to have a tendency towards open pores, an attack of pimples also leaves ugly scars and open pores behind.  Even though the scars may fade away after some time, open pores appear to be more obstinate and hardly show any signs of shrinking.  Age also takes its toll by giving an uneven/pigmented tone to the skin and making the open pores more prominent. Heredity could also be a contributing factor in determining your pore size. It’s not easy to get rid of these pores or shrink them completely or permanently using serums, lotions or face packs. Even resorting to drastic chemical/surgical procedures at the dermatologist’s isn’t quite capable of giving satisfactory results.  Nevertheless, you can try and minimize their appearance at least temporarily with clever makeup and a few natural skin care masks such as these: * Cleanse your face with a mild ...
