Home Remedies for tonsillitis

Though tonsils provide local immunity to the oral cavity by devouring the bacteria that make their way to the body through the throat, they do suffer injuries and sometimes succumb to it. This inflammatory condition in the tonsils is known as ‘tonsillitis and calls for a surgery.

But remember, “Treatment always begins at home”. Here is a collection of home remedies to provide relief and reduce the inflammation and swelling.
  • Mustard should be powdered well and one pinch of this powder should be mixed with hot water. Gargle frequently with this solution for relief.
  • Hot water fomentation with a clean soft cloth dipped in hot water, applied locally over the throat also provides relief.
  • Turmeric root should be ground well into a fine powder and a paste should be made using water. This paste should be applied locally over the throat. Turmeric has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties.
  • One pinch of turmeric powder and some crystalline salt should be mixed in one cup of hot water. Gargle with this solution frequently.
  • One pinch of black pepper and half a spoon of turmeric powder should be mixed with milk. Consume this thrice a day. It alleviates cough and inflammation of the tonsils.
Oral hygiene is prime importance to keep tonsillitis at bay. Brushing of teeth after every meal and throat gargling are the keys to oral hygiene. Burn turmeric roots over a flame and powder it well. Mix this powder with an equal quantity of common salt to create a tooth powder which is a perfect blend of nature and health. Using this powder helps maintain oral hygiene and prevents the slightest chance of developing tonsillitis.

Even after all these remedies if tonsillitis still bothers you, then you may have to consult your doctor and go in for a surgery.

Banafsha flowers, botanically known as Viola odorata, are beneficial in the treatment of tonsillitis. About 12 gm of these flowers should be boiled in 50 ml of milk. This milk should be taken hot after being filtered. The filtered banafsha can also be lightly fried in clarified butter and worn round the throat as a poultice at night

A cold pack should be applied to the throat at two-hourly intervals during the day. A hot Epsom salts bath taken everyday or every other day will also be beneficial

Most cases of tonsillitis are caused by a viral infection, and antibiotics won't help. The only thing you can do is let the virus run its course — and take steps to relieve pain and inflammation. Recovery may take a week or two.

Drink warm, soothing liquids — such as soup, broth and tea.
    Gargle with warm salt water.
Take acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) to help reduce fever and decrease pain. Because of the risk of Reye's syndrome — a potentially life-threatening illness — don't give aspirin to children younger than age 12.
    Surgery
Surgical removal of the tonsils (tonsillectomy) is rarely needed for adults. During childhood, surgery may be recommended when a child has had:

The only way to get rid of tonsillitis is to treat it with antibiotics because it is an infection. Infection=Antibiotics. Nothing else will get red of it. I had tonsillitis a couple of years ago, it was the first time I had it and I felt absolutely terrible with it. Now I now what it can be like I would recommend getting treated properly.

LOTS OF LIQUID - drink non-stop. No caffeine, no smoking, no breathing in smoke. Hard candy or cough drops to suck on are good too.

Inhaling eucalyptus infusion/vaporizers. Using vaporub medicine on your chest and throat. Sitting in a steamed up bathroom.

Home remedies for sleeplessness

The day dawns beautifully for those who have had a night of good sleep. But the same day drags on for those who have spent a disturbing, sleepless night. Sleep is a biological necessity even as eating and drinking are. Sufficient sleep renders a person normally sociable, lively and high-spirited. It’s a nature’s way of rejuvenating the person for the next day. Realize all this, and make sleep a physiological habit. The consequences of long time sleep deprivation can be very grave. Lack of sleep takes its toll on the skin and hair. It causes acne-breakouts and makes one look aged and haggard beyond years. Experts opine that during sleep as our metabolic rate falls, blood goes to those areas which need the most repairing. This also steps up the production of collagen and keratin, which aid the regeneration of skin cells and help resist premature ageing. So for a younger looking and a problem free skin you need to have a good quality of sleep every night.
