Home Remedies To Quit Drinking Alcohol

I don't have any first hand experience with alcoholics or alcoholism. Luckily for me, all of my family members and near relatives are teetotalers but I've seen many families ruined due to alcohol abuse of either of the spouses /parents/ siblings. Most alcoholics believe that they are moderate drinkers and that they  have the control over their habit but this is far from truth. Alcohol can take over you so slyly that you will not be aware that you have already become addicted to it. The good news is that you can help and kick the habit but it needs tremendous will-power and patience from your side. Places such as Alcoholics Anonymous can also help you in your endeavour. You can also try some of the natural remedies which will help you in your rehabilitation. Here below I present a few simple and effective home remedies, suggested by a folk medicine practitioner on Television. Taking these potions may help you get over alcoholism.

Home Remedy #1
black saltgooseberries
 cumin jeera milk-1
Take ¼ th tsp of gooseberry (dry) powder, 2 cardamom, ½ tsp of cumin seeds and a pinch of black salt in a mortar and pestle and crush them well. In a vessel heat ½ glass of milk and add the crushed mixture all the while stirring continuously and when it comes to a boil switch off the flame. Strain it in a glass and have it after breakfast. You may experience some nausea or vomiting sensation after this. Nothing to worry.

Home Remedy #2

black salt tamarind and tamarind pulp cloves water in a glass

In a vessel add ½  a glass of water. Add 3-4 cloves, 2 cardamoms, pea sized tamarind and a pinch of black salt and heat it. Let it come to a boil. Then strain it in a glass. After it cools, add a small cup of watermelon juice to this mixture. Have it twice a day, once after taking breakfast/brunch and after dinner.
Now try any of one or both of the above homemade concoctions. Taking these concoctions is going to fill you with disgust towards alcohol.  Even if you do get a craving and when you try to take a sip, you will experience vomiting sensation and feel like throwing away your drink.

You will get an aversion for that chilled beer after you try the above mentioned home-remedies.

Some other home-remedies that might prove useful:
* Whenever you feel an urge to drink, try and drink a glass of carrot juice. Filling yourself with vegetable and fruit juices will reduce your craving for alcohol. Orange, celery and lime juice are also effective.

* Consumption of apples and bananas will help to detoxify your system which has been contaminated with the overuse of alcohol.

* Consumption of grapes and grape juice from time to time will get over your craving for alcohol as grapes are a natural source of alcohol.

* Consumption of dates as well as date juice will help a great deal for people who are undergoing alcoholic rehabilitation.

* Taking 2-3 tablespoons of bittergourd juice with a glass of buttermilk will help those who have suffered liver damage due to excess intake of alcohol.

* Whenever you get a strong craving for alcohol, try deep breathing to calm yourself. Certain breathing exercises and pranayams like Anulom Vilom, Bhramari, Sheetali and Sheetkari will also help tremendously in calming your mind and giving you more self-control.

* To get in charge of your life, you need to focus on getting healthy and fit. You should incorporate healthy activities in your lifestyle. Go for long walks everyday. Exercise or  go to a gym for at least 5 days in a week. It will be very difficult in the beginning. Start with 20-30 minutes of moderate exercise in the beginning and slowly increase. In a matter of few months, your health condition will start getting better.
