Beauty Masks for a glowing complexion

Masks are a marvelous way to pamper yourself with, besides their being one of the oldest forms of beautifying treatment. You put on a preparation, leave it for 10 to 20 minutes and then wash it off. There are many different kinds of masks: some act as pick-me-up, some have nourishing, healing or cleansing actions, some whip up the circulation and some others have an astringent action.

Unfortunately, masks cannot perform miracles but they do freshen up the skin and leave it soft and glowing. They cannot be used everyday, but once a week or just when your skin needs a boost. One of the most important things to remember, when using a mask, is to relax completely. Lie with your feet up, put on eye-pads and relax.

Try these home-made masks for yourself.
Carrot and turnip mask: Boil these two ingredients, for 5 minutes, and make them into a paste. Apply it for 10 minutes and rinse it off with milk. This leaves the skin feeling beautifully fresh and clean.
Kashmiri mask: Ingredients required - 2 tsp dried orange peel, 2 tsp oatmeal flour, 2 tsp cream. Mix into a paste and apply it all over the face and neck. After 10 to 15 minutes, when it is dry, rub it off using an upward circular motion. This abrasive motion smoothens and cleans the skin.
Strawberry mask: Mash 3 large strawberries and apply the pulp as a mask and leave it for 10 minutes. Wash it off with rose water. Strawberries are slightly acidic, containing Vitamin C. It leaves the skin sparkling and shining.
Egg white mask: Probably the best-known, most used toning and tightening mask is the egg white mask. Spread a thin film of egg white on your face. Rinse it off after 10 to 20 minutes. This mask tightens up the skin, ironing out the wrinkles from it and leaving it feeling smooth and satiny. It has an astringent action and so is ideal for greasy skin. If you have a dry skin, just add a teaspoonful of honey to it and use it.
A quick mask: Ingredients- 2 tbsp household starch, 1 tbsp warm milk. Mix these together into a paste and use it on your face. It dries very quickly, to be removed after 10 minutes. Your skin will feel smooth and firm.
Egg and yeast mask: Ingredients: 1 egg yolk, 1 tbsp brewer’s yeast, 1 tbsp sunflower oil. Mix these together into a smooth paste and apply. Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse off with milk. Yeast stimulates the skin, and with the addition of the egg yolk and oil, it is a most effective mask.
Hungarian country mask: Ingredients: 2 tbsp well-cooked rice, 1 tbsp almond oil, 1 egg yolk, 6 drops of lemon juice. Mix and skim all the ingredients into a paste and apply it as a nourishing mask. Leave for 10 minutes and remove it with milk.

Calamine powder is equally good in toning up the skin. You can make a paste by adding milk cream or raw milk to calamine powder and apply it on face and neck. Rinse off when dry. Remember that you never talk or laugh when you have these packs on the skin or you will increase the wrinkles on your face than decreasing.
Sandalwood powder applied on face by making a paste with rose water decreases the fine lines and tones up the skin.

Multani mitti or Fuller’s earth makes an excellent cleansing mask, and possesses highly absorbent qualities. It is rich in minerals and when applied to the skin in the form of a paste, it helps improve circulation; it hardens slowly as it dries, and absorbing the dead cells on the top of the skin and dries up any excess oil. The mineral ingredient in fuller’s earth giving the absorbent action is the hydrated aluminium silicate. Grease of the skin, coats the particles of aluminium silicate and is lifted away from the skin when the mask is removed. It is therefore unsuitable for a dry skin but is excellent for an oily skin. So you can try using it as a face pack, but avoid using iy every day.

Ingredients: Take one teaspoon of mint powder. One tablespoon of yogurt One tablespoon of multani mitti. Soak multani mitti and mint powder in yoghurt for half an hour. Then mix them well by beating. Apply it on face for 15 minutes and leave it to dry. When dried wash off with lukewarm water. Then rinse by cold water.

Ditch the synthetic scrubs. Instead opt for a home made face scrub which will gently and effectively scrub off dirt and grime. The flour of Bengal gram is a very effectual cleansing agent. Its regular use improves skin texture and keeps years off the skin.

For glowing skin, we need to get up before sunrise, do some yoga, and pray in front of God . We can notice this change soon. I prefer it to multanis and other beauty facials etc..
Believe me, once we are engrossed in these types of activities, we automatically start getting benefits without our knowledge, and be confident in whatever work we do

Grate raw coconut and squeeze milk out of it. Apply this milk over your lips and face. It adds grace and glow to your skin.
Dip a piece of cotton wool in un boiled milk and wipe on the face with it. It also cleans unseen dirt and goes down to pores.
