Is Invisalign the Answer to Fixing Buck Teeth

Buck teeth are present if two or more of an individual’s front teeth extend so far out that they cover the lower lip. They are often the result of genetics, thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, or the overuse of a pacifier. Children and adults may develop this severe overbite and feel embarrassed about their smile, especially if they are overtly conscious of their so called "rabbit teeth".

Ashamed of your buck teeth?

As per a theory propounded by American anthropologist C. Loring Brace, human overbite of Europeans is only about 250 years old and was the result of the widespread adoption of the table knife and fork. Brace also researched the Chinese, who had adopted chopsticks 900 years earlier and found the instances of overbites increased about the same time the new eating method was introduced. [Source]

It's not a good idea to obsess over one's appearance too much and get too much frustrated about having buck teeth. There were many famous personalities in recorded human history who had buck teeth but they are not remembered for their physical anomalies but for their work and he legacy they left behind.
Ignore others' attitude towards your teeth. If someone teases you about your "rabbit teeth", tell them that you are smart and swift just like a rabbit. The real you cannot be seen in your teeth.

Let your self-esteem not be dependent on your looks; however this is easier said than done. And these days undue importance is given to one's looks and physical appearance. So  it's natural to feel ashamed of your buck teeth as the pressure to look 'normal' is immense. And not everyone of us has that "don't care" attitude.

Now, in addition to confidence issues, buck teeth can make it difficult for a child or adult to chew, breathe, and speak normally. This condition can also increase their risk of cavities and tooth decay. Fortunately, Invisalign can resolve buck teeth.

Dr. Sims of Sims Orthodontics has treated many patients with buck teeth through Invisalign. Invisalign aligners are clear, comfortable, and typically preferred over traditional metal braces. Patients with buck teeth who undergo Invisalign treatment will be able to remove their aligners for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.

While Invisalign is often enough to correct buck teeth, severe cases may require surgery. In some cases, Invisalign may be coupled with surgical intervention.

Surgery for buck teeth typically involves pushing the maxilla behind or pushing the mandible forward. It is important to note that buck teeth treatment will likely take longer for adults than children because their gums have been hardened and teeth are already permanent.

If you or someone you love is self-conscious about buck teeth, it’s a good idea to schedule an appointment at a good cosmetic dentist. He /She can recommend an appropriate treatment and improve your quality of life or your loved ones.
