Tips for Keeping Your Hair and Skin Beautiful When You Travel

When we're home, it can be hard enough to stick to a consistent beauty regimen, right? So basically, we can multiply that challenge by two when it comes to doing the things that will help to keep our hair and skin beautiful while we're traveling on the road.

takeoff

If you are about to embark up a journey and you'd like to keep your hair shiny and skin radiant in the midst of climate changes, shifts in time zones and different kinds of foods and drinks, here are five things that will keep you just as beautiful on the road as you are within the comforts of your own home:

Watch your diet. Now by this we don't mean that you have to go on a diet. It simply means that what we put into our bodies is often reflected in our hair, skin and nails. So, if you were happy with your physical appearance before you left, make sure to keep in mind the kinds of foods that you eat at home so that you can incorporate them into your "travel diet". Do keep in mind that excessive amounts of caffeine, sugar and fried foods are definitely all things that work against keeping your hair and skin healthy.

Drink plenty of water. We're made up of mostly water and so of course our bodies crave it. That said, it's a good to carry a water bottle with you while on the road because it lowers the risk of dehydration. Plus, various studies reveal that if you are traveling overseas, drinking water is also a great way to lessen any jetlag. As far as beauty from the neck up specifically, water is a natural detoxifier. That's good for clearing the pores and rejuvenating your hair follicles.

Keep away from any high-maintenance. This applies to both the hair and the skin. Say that you're going to Brazil, instance. If you decide to wear some authentic Brazilian clothing, you are already going to be a knockout, so styling your hair in an elaborate way that requires lots of gels and hairspray or putting on a ton of make-up may end up hiding your real beauty rather than enhancing it. You are on vacation, so let your hair and skin be on it as well. Take along hair accessories that will require as little hair manipulation as possible. As far as makeup (after applying some sunscreen or moisturizer from head to toe), applying some translucent powder on your face, a couple of coats of mascara and a sheer-colored lip gloss will bring out the natural beauty in you.

Get some dry shampoo. Dry shampoo is a lifesaver on many levels. If you have blonde hair, it minimizes the greasy appearance that you might get after skipping a day or so of "wet shampooing" in the shower. Also, if your hair is damaged from a lot of the manipulation that comes with washing, blow drying and heat styling, it keeps your hair fresh while giving it a break from those kinds of "hair activities". Another benefit is that if you're going hiking, camping or somewhere that won't have a lot of electricity, all you need to do is spray it on and pull your hair back into a scarf or ponytail. You'll still look as good as new.

Wash your face (every night). After dancing until dawn, you might be tempted to go to bed without washing all of the "ambiance" (and leftover makeup) off of your face. Not only does this cake up on your skin and clog up your pores, but it sets you up for having an acne breakout in the near future. No matter where you are or how tired you get, make washing your face each night a top priority. You'll be glad that you did when the vacation is over and you're back home looking into your own bathroom mirror again.
