Five Things You Didn't Know about Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery has developed into a big trend this past decade. It is impossible to turn on the TV without hearing about some star undergoing a plastic surgery change. After hearing all this, a large amount of people decide they are interested in having some cosmetic surgery done for themselves. There are five things anyone considering cosmetic surgery needs to know.

cosmetic surgery

1. Looking Old

Putting yourself under the knife can affect the physiology of your skin in a negative manner. While you may consider it a good idea to have cosmetic surgery to fight the aging process, it is very likely that your underlying tissues will be affected by the surgery and the aging process will speed up. This would defeat the whole purpose of getting cosmetic surgery, so if it’s just some wrinkles you’re trying to get rid of an anti-aging cream might have better results.

2. Certification

It is obvious that your plastic surgeon needs to be certified, but did you know, according to the mayo clinic, surgeons can get their certifications with little more than an application fee? Make sure that you’re surgeon is certified by an appropriate board that is accepted by the American Board of Medical Specialties to get the best chance of success and to protect your well-being.

3. Prices

Getting cosmetic surgery done is extremely expensive. A facelift, one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures done, costs from $6,000 to $15,000. Most other forms of Cosmetic surgery fall in that same price range. Liposuction, for instance can range from $2500 for one area, up to $10000 for five areas. If you get your work done by someone with a lot of experience-like you should-it will be in the higher end of that range.

4. Complications

Like any other type of surgery, having cosmetic surgery work done comes at a risk. There is always a chance of infection, which can be lethal. Even if your health doesn’t get compromised when you go under the knife, there is always the chance that you come out with unsatisfactory results or even disfigurement. Anyone who has a health condition like diabetes, lung problems, or cardiovascular disease is at a higher risk if they choose to undergo cosmetic surgery.

5. Duration

Cosmetic surgery has evolved a lot over the past decade, but there is still some downtime after surgery. Find out how long your recovery time will be after you get your procedure done. Another thing you need to know is that most cosmetic surgery procedures only yield temporary results. How long and what type of results you get vary from procedure to procedure and doctor to doctor. Remember to ask your doctor questions about how long the results will last and when you will need a follow-up if you want to pursue this cosmetic surgery.
