Makeup trends from London Fashion Week 2009

Right off the heels of the New York Fashion Week comes the London Fashion Week 2009! Lesser known than its Parisian counterpart, London’s Fashion Week emanates the grungy street style unique to the UK alone. And grey seems to be the colour of the season. Designers such as Todd Lynn, Erdem, and Peter Pilotto all played with muted blues, greens and yellows for their spring/summer 2010 lines.

The opening shows have all seemed to be awash in a gloomy overcast mood which is why it was so easy to hone in on the catwalk makeup these gorgeous models were sporting! Although it is still early, Monday and Tuesday’s shows showcased bare-naked faces with minimal foundation, blush and nude lip color. How can you achieve the look that’s sweeping London this season? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Start with as clean, bare face and apply a matte foundation primer such as Smashbox Photo Finish Primer or Urban Decay Complexion Primer Potion. Worn alone, foundation primers minimize the look of pores, fine lines and blemishes while giving your skin a matte finish. And since we are trying to go for a minimalist look, its best to avoid foundation or concealer unless you really need it.
  • Next, select a grey eye shadow such as Stila Eye Shadow Duo Kajiki. This particular eye shadow comes with an accompanying deep, muted green which works well on fair and medium skin tones. A quick sweep of grey on the lids will bring all the focus to your eyes.
  • For nude lips, choose a nude lipstick. Choose one that matches with your skin tone in order to achieve the more natural look.

Topshop had the most interesting makeup of London Fashion Week so far, clearly influenced by a cross between Dita von Teese and the beautiful vampires from Twilight. Models had pale skin, eyes rimmed in cranberry shadow and matte grey lips

Pore shrinking mask recipes from home

A face with large open pores when seen from close quarters doesn’t look so good. While it’s quite common for oily skins to have a tendency towards open pores, an attack of pimples also leaves ugly scars and open pores behind.  Even though the scars may fade away after some time, open pores appear to be more obstinate and hardly show any signs of shrinking.  Age also takes its toll by giving an uneven/pigmented tone to the skin and making the open pores more prominent. Heredity could also be a contributing factor in determining your pore size. It’s not easy to get rid of these pores or shrink them completely or permanently using serums, lotions or face packs. Even resorting to drastic chemical/surgical procedures at the dermatologist’s isn’t quite capable of giving satisfactory results.  Nevertheless, you can try and minimize their appearance at least temporarily with clever makeup and a few natural skin care masks such as these: * Cleanse your face with a mild ...
