5 Tips for Selecting the Perfect Face Mask for Your Skin

When it comes to looking beautiful, one of the best accessories that we have is our skin. Therefore, we have to make sure to be as proactive as we possibly can about preserving it; one way to do so is by getting a facial on a consistent basis. Aside from the fact that facial masks are a wonderful way to pamper yourself, it's also great for deep cleansing your skin, tightening up your pores and providing moisture in your extra dry places.

Of course, being that we all have different skin types, there are some masks that work better for some than others and that's what this article is about: Providing you with five tips for selecting the perfect face mask for your particular kind of skin.

Oily skin. If you have oily skin, although it can make you more acne prone, there are some benefits as well. Due to the fact that your skin is naturally hydrated by the sebum, it can help you to look younger for longer. Plus, it provides a thin coat that serves as a bit of a primer to make it easier to apply your makeup. However, in order to keep the oil from clogging up your pours, apply a clay mask once or twice a month. They contain clay and silica to absorb any excess sebum.

Dry skin. People who are born with dry skin are people who don't tend to have as many problems with breakouts. Two other bonuses are that their pores are usually smaller than those with oily skin and their skin is a bit more low-maintenance than oily or combination skin as well. Still, anything out of balance can pose problems and so if you have dry skin, you need to drink plenty of water and use a moisture mask to replenish any fluid that your skin may be lacking. To keep your skin supple, look for masks with ingredients like sunflower and avocado oil and apply them to your face 1-2 times per week.

Sensitive skin. Does it seem like no matter what you do, your skin reacts (and not always in the best way) to your efforts? If so, that could mean that you have sensitive skin. While it's best to stick to hypoallergenic products and to see a dermatologist if things do not improve, there's a pretty good chance that one thing that can bring some relief is a water-based mask. Ones that have cucumber or Aloe Vera can be extremely soothing.

Aging skin. We're all going to age, right? As a matter of fact, whether we want to think about it or not, everyday our skin is getting older. You can combat it, though by using masks that will help to rebuild the collagen that you may be losing. Although masks that contain ingredients such as Retinol and Glycolic Acid tend to be a bit more expensive, if they can keep the wrinkles at a bay for a bit longer, they are definitely worth it.

Acne-prone skin. If you struggle with having acne-prone skin and you're looking for something to help with your pimples along with what can serve as a bit of an acne scarring treatment, the good news for you is that while there are commercial products that can help (Neutrogena is a great line, for one), there are masks that you can make at home that can bring some relief. Apple cider vinegar, egg yolks and honey are just a few of the ingredients that can help with healing your acne. For more information, go to your favorite search engine (Google in my case) and put "homemade acne masks" in the search field.
