Stop wasting your time following someone else's plan for you. Make your own plan based on realistic changes--if you can't follow your chosen diet for the rest of your life, you're wasting precious time.

New Year's resolutions are easy to make but can be hard to keep, especially when the goal is to substitute new habits for old. To help with follow-through on exercise routines, I suggest starting with a personal trainer for guidance.

If you want to make a resolution to improve your diet or workout more, then that's great. I think that you should start this resolution right now! Not Monday, not tomorrow and certainly don't wait till next month. If something is important then why put it off? However I realize that many people aren't going to take this good (great) advice. If you insist on using the well being of your body as a New Year's resolution then I advise you to write down the reasons for doing this (longer life, less pain, etc) and re read them from time to time. Remind yourself that you are doing this for a purpose! Not just because it sounds good when someone asks you what your New Year's resolution is.

Here are Three Goal Making Tips to Get You Started in 2011
Start the first month by making small weekly goals.
Make realistic goals. Nothing is more demotivating then not being able to reach a goal.
Tell you friends. Don't keep your fitness goals a secret! It's understandable that you want to surprise your friends and family with a new buff bod the next time that they see you but I will guarantee that they will be surprised no matter what! If you tell people what you are up to, then you have a bit of pressure to make it happen. If no one knows, it is easier to quit because nobody else knows you gave up but yourself.

Everything that is done in moderation is not bad for the body, and it’s the same with exercise. Do not overstretch or overwork your body. Give it ample rest and follow a proper diet.
