Combating wrinkles with Botox

Ageing usually results in the weakening of bones, decrease in stamina loosening of the muscles and most of all the wrinkles in the skin. This is a phenomenon that always keeps one, especially a woman in worries. But it is now almost a thing of the past with the emergence of a wonder drug called “Botox”. With the anti wrinkle creams already in use is a slow and unsure process of tightening the skin, botox proves to be a much faster in banishing wrinkles.
Botulinium toxin is a kind of protein produced from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinium and is highly neurotoxic whose therapeutic use was first conceived by a physician named Justinus Kerner. It was in the 1970’s that Alan Scott, an American ophthalmologist first experimented the therapeutic use of botolinium toxin of type A on monkeys. In 1980 it was officially used in humans to treat a condition called strabismus or cross eyes and blepahrospasm(uncontrollable blinking).

Botox is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment to enhance the looks of a person by reducing the lines on the face. Down the years it has in a large scale helped in successfully treating wrinkles and facial creases. Botox then gained the FDA approval in 2002 for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines or glabellar lines between the eye brows and wrinkles on the other parts of the face.

BOTOX TREATMENT:
Botox is generally injected into the skin where there are wrinkles or other problems. It can be used
1. To treat eye muscle problems and abnormal spasms of the eye lids in people above age 12.
2. For treating abnormal head positions and neck pain with cervical dystonia in people aged 18 and above.
3. to treat muscle stiffness in elbow, wrist and finger muscles with upper limb spasticity in people aged 18 and above.
4. To treat severe primary auxiliary hyperhidrosis (severe underarm sweating)

Injection procedure:
Before the injections on the skin the doctor first determines the areas on which it is to be administered by examining the ability to move the muscles around the brow area.
The entire procedure consumes approximately 10 minutes and there is no need for anesthesia. There is a minimum discomfort in this type of treatment which is a major advantage.

The improvement in the frown lines may show within 3 to 7 days and may last upto four months. The results may however vary with persons. As the effect of botox begins to wear the lines on the face are likely to reappear.

Botox injections can be taken once in every four months. As the frequency of taking injections increases, thinning of muscles takes place which helps the effect last longer.

The cost of getting treated with botox ranges from $200 to $400 per treatment area for a duration of four to six months.

Though it does not result in skin damage, there are certain other possible side effects that botox can cause. They are:
  • · Muscle weakness
  • · Nausea
  • · Temporary drooping of eyelids
  • · Eye twitch
  • · Facial pains
  • · Head ache
  • · Bruising at the injection site
  • · Possibilities of botulism
  • · Respiratory infection
However, these side effects are caused mostly with the excessive and repeated injections and some others that are too mild and can be easily treated.

Botox, thus offers its share of both pluses and minuses left to the choice of the user.

as long as you get a reputable doctor to do it the botox shots it should be okay. there are risks. you are using a strain of the botulism germ. also, you can usually get a discount if you schedule your appt. at the end of the day.doctors have to throw left over from the day away.it goes bad and instead of throwing it away ,they will usually give you a reduced rate. you have to ask though, they aren't just going to give you the reduced rate.

Chemical peels and laser resurfacing are techniques used to remove dead cells from the surface layer of the skin thereby stimulating the regenerative process. Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections may also help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles temporarily. More recently, people are choosing plastic surgery to eliminate wrinkles.
The truth is that while creams may help to moisturize the skin, there is no conventional way to get rid of wrinkles. Furthermore, many creams are too rich and may further irritate the skin, or cause the skin to over compensate and disrupt the delicate balance of natural skin oils.

Botox is effective for Dynamic expression lines but is painful as it involves injections and is also quite expensive. We now have an effective substitute for Botox. New Collagen substitutes have been discovered and they are very effective in reducing wrinkle lines. There are many brands in the market with essentially the same function.
They reduces wrinkles by helping the skin rejuvenate and help smoothen wrinkle lines. However they may require regular application to be effective. These Collagen substitutes are sold under various brand names and are normally offered free for a tria
