Zinc pills to help rosacea

rosaceaRosacea is a common but little-known disorder of the facial skin that affects mostly fair-skinned people. It’s often mistaken for acne. While the cause of rosacea is unknown and there is no cure, today medical help is available that can control the signs and symptoms of this potentially life-disruptive disorder. Some symptoms include redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead, small visible blood vessels on the face, bumps or pimples on the face and watery or irritated eyes.


Britain’s leading nutritionist Jane Clarke has some terrific advice for treating rosacea. She advocates the use of zinc pills (zinc sulphate) as it has been found that people given large doses of zinc supplements (upto 300 mg) have experienced an improvement in their condition. But as large doses of zinc supplements can cause side-effects and stomach problems such as cramps, indigestion and diarrhea, she advises that it is always better to seek an expert’s opinion about the suitable dosage.

She also mentions about other supplements that have been shown to help - Nicotinamide (the synthetic version of vitamin B3), copper and low-dose zinc supplements (note: these are not the same as zinc sulphate). But here again, she stresses more on discussing this with a medical professional.

According to her, your diet can play a major role in aggravating or improving your skin condition. A wholesome nutritious diet with little or no low-glycemic foods can do a world of good for skin conditions like rosacea or acne. And it is all the more better if you can identify those foods that are likely to induce or worsen your symptoms of rosacea. Your skin will benefit most certainly if you completely avoid such trigger foods. An occasional tea or coffee is not quite likely to worsen your condition or have any bearing on your skin texture. In fact intake of herbal decoctions like green tea might even help. But excessive intake of coffee/tea, aerated drinks, alcohol should be strictly avoided. It has also been found that by making certain lifestyle changes, such as avoiding hot baths and extremes in temperature also helps in relieving the symptoms. That’s why take foods and drinks, which are at room temperature; do not partake those foods which are steaming hot or ice-cold.


She concludes by saying that by keeping a tab on your diet, incorporating a few lifestyle changes and finding a way to keep stress levels at the minimum you can improve the appearance of the skin tremendously and fight conditions such as rosacea effectively.

    My skin went crazy...it felt like it was on fire. Raw and red and such pain!

    I went to the dermatologist and he prescribed "MetroLotion" and all it did was burn my skin even more.( This started when I was about 48 years old---other strange health problems were happening at the same time).

    I started using the Made from Earth Rosehip & Hibiscus Face Serum also - and my skin is under control. The hideous raw red skin flares occaisionally...I use it daily...

    Avoid sun exposure. Use sunscreen every day.
    Avoid prolonged exertion in hot weather.
    Try to reduce stress. Try deep breathing, yoga, or other relaxation techniques.
    Limit spicy foods, alcohol, and hot beverages.
    There are also certain medications that can be used to help reduce redness but they need to be prescribed by a doctor.

  14. Turmeric helps control my rosacia. i use 1 tsp in 6 to 8 ounces of warm milk daily. do this for 4 or 5 days then skip a couple days befor restarting.

  15. zinc needs to be taken with copper to protect against copper deficiency (which is caused by excessive zinc). Also zinc can be taken in a pill form or as a cream in zinc oxide form. In any case, the rosacea bearer will be able to have some relief.

    Avoid foods and activities that increase blood circulation to face as well as neck.     try a dairy milk face-soak during a flare-up (as long as you're not allergic) The dairy milk helps to balance the natural PH of the skin
    - try using face lotion containing certified green algae or aloe vera gel (use lotions, not creams, as lotion is more gentle on the skin and absorbs more easily)
    try using pure tea tree oil for pimples & blemishes. Apply with a q-tip to each individual pimple or blemish. avoid extended periods in direct sun (use sunblock with 15 - 30 spf) drink pure green tea, rose hip tea, and fennel tea (great antioxidants) eat foods high in anti-oxidants; such as blueberries, cranberries, purple grapes, broccoli, etc..

  23. best and cheapest remedy for rosacea is: head&shoulder supplement from wall mart and 100% aloe vera gel + cocoa butter
    wash your face with the shampoo and leave it for 2-3 min and rinse, once dry apply aloe Vera, once dry apply 100% cocoa butter cream also from wall mart... really cheap and proven to work it did it for me in less than two weeks..

Drinking water helps to wash out the toxins in your body. As well, alcohol is generally a known trigger for most rosacea people.

    avoid extreme weather conditions as much as possible (hot, cold, windy...)
    avoid really hot things. Hot showers & hot tubs, hot drinks (the heat will dilate blood vessels causing more redness)
    avoid spicy foods, greasy foods, and foods with a high refined-sugar content. (these foods disrupt the natural digestive processes of the body)
    - eat foods high in anti-oxidants; such as blueberries, cranberries, purple grapes, broccoli, etc..

    If possible, go on liquid diet for some days but only after proper guidance from a dietitian. Liquid diet not only returns the shine and glamor to your skin, but also helps you lose weight.
