Safflower oil for smooth skin

safflower oilSafflower oil need not restricted to culinary delights alone. A few small studies show that safflower oil can rejuvenate dry skin. Like sesame and mustard oils, it contains essential fatty acids like linoleic acid that can smooth, nourish and help damaged skin hold onto moisture better. Safflower Oil also shares many similarities with the naturally occurring lipid components of the human skin. And, unlike other oils, it doesn’t clog the pores or irritate follicles and hence is suitable even for acne prone skin. Just spreading a thin layer of this oil on your skin can help with dryness, especially in winters.

You can use the following mask using safflower oil to treat dry flaky skin (which is not acne-prone).

Ingredients:

Safflower oil – ½ tsp
Avocado oil - ½ tsp
Sesame oil – 1 tsp

Method:

Blend all the oils together and apply all over the dry flaky areas of your skin.

I'd believe I will try this. I currently find that using an organic cosmetic Almond Oil (from the health food store), and just massaging it all over my dry flaky skin prior to showering is awesome. I'm always open to new suggestions. Thanks!

Thanks for the Almond oil suggestion on my blog. I'll definitely consider that. Do you heat it a bit to make it easier to use? Seems like it tends to a more solidified state when the weather is colder.

When using the Almond Oil I also follow up with an awesome organic body cream. This has been a great treat for my skin. . . smoother and softer than it has been in the wintertime in years.

Thanks Lynn for dropping by. Yes, I do warm it (coconut oil) a bit before applying.

I have safflower oil!! I recently bought a bottle of it, and initially the smell of it was a little...uhhh...nutty. But I have to say it does sink it on my body really fast. I haven't fully used it though, because I was waiting for some miy stuff from GoW to arrive to make a body oil or some sort (my body is freakishly dry). I tried it as an OCM, but oddly it was too heavy for my face.LOL. I guess because my face is much more oily, so it just kind of sat there, and I didn't like the feel of it, and perhaps it's not meant for OCM. ;pNow I must make something for my legs with safflower! Since it's non-greasy, it'll be great for all over! I'll update you when I've tried it Michelle! :) Ooohh, although the safflower I got smells slightly nutty, the smell fades off once applied. I'm not sure why it has the odour, since it's supposed to be odourless...the one I got is organic cold-pressed. But I'm glad I didn't get any irritation from it!

Any product containing detergents should be avoided by people suffering from dry skin as they wash away the natural lipids that help your skin retain hydration. If you have dry skin do not use products that create bubbles.

Ohh I didnt know that! Thanks, Shama. Anyway, Safflower oil is good for our skin. I am using Colonial Dames Vitamin E Skin Oil and the ingredients are Safflower Oil, Grapeseed Oil and tocopheryl acetate. I must say that these mix of oils are amazing. They really work together to make my skin smooth and moisturised. In addition, although this product is a little bit sticky, it has no fragrance and it doesnt make me feel oily at all. I feel like there's nothing on my skin although I put on lots of this oil.

Water will keep your complexion smooth and glowing but if you have dry skin problem you would need some external skin care treatment. That means you can save your money which you would have spent in visiting beauty parlors and saloons.

A rose and lime body lotion is perfect for softening dry, chapped skin. Mix 3 tbsps of rose water with 1 tbsp of glycerin and 2 tbsps of lime juice and refrigerate until it sets. Then smooth onto your body for summer-ready skin!

Because of its emollient properties, safflower oil is used in lip balms and glosses to help keep the lips hydrated and soft.
