Safflower oil for smooth skin

safflower oilSafflower oil need not restricted to culinary delights alone. A few small studies show that safflower oil can rejuvenate dry skin. Like sesame and mustard oils, it contains essential fatty acids like linoleic acid that can smooth, nourish and help damaged skin hold onto moisture better. Safflower Oil also shares many similarities with the naturally occurring lipid components of the human skin. And, unlike other oils, it doesn’t clog the pores or irritate follicles and hence is suitable even for acne prone skin. Just spreading a thin layer of this oil on your skin can help with dryness, especially in winters.

You can use the following mask using safflower oil to treat dry flaky skin (which is not acne-prone).

Ingredients:

Safflower oil – ½ tsp
Avocado oil - ½ tsp
Sesame oil – 1 tsp

Method:

Blend all the oils together and apply all over the dry flaky areas of your skin.

I'd believe I will try this. I currently find that using an organic cosmetic Almond Oil (from the health food store), and just massaging it all over my dry flaky skin prior to showering is awesome. I'm always open to new suggestions. Thanks!

Thanks for the Almond oil suggestion on my blog. I'll definitely consider that. Do you heat it a bit to make it easier to use? Seems like it tends to a more solidified state when the weather is colder.

When using the Almond Oil I also follow up with an awesome organic body cream. This has been a great treat for my skin. . . smoother and softer than it has been in the wintertime in years.

Thanks Lynn for dropping by. Yes, I do warm it (coconut oil) a bit before applying.

I have safflower oil!! I recently bought a bottle of it, and initially the smell of it was a little...uhhh...nutty. But I have to say it does sink it on my body really fast. I haven't fully used it though, because I was waiting for some miy stuff from GoW to arrive to make a body oil or some sort (my body is freakishly dry). I tried it as an OCM, but oddly it was too heavy for my face.LOL. I guess because my face is much more oily, so it just kind of sat there, and I didn't like the feel of it, and perhaps it's not meant for OCM. ;pNow I must make something for my legs with safflower! Since it's non-greasy, it'll be great for all over! I'll update you when I've tried it Michelle! :) Ooohh, although the safflower I got smells slightly nutty, the smell fades off once applied. I'm not sure why it has the odour, since it's supposed to be odourless...the one I got is organic cold-pressed. But I'm glad I didn't get any irritation from it!

Any product containing detergents should be avoided by people suffering from dry skin as they wash away the natural lipids that help your skin retain hydration. If you have dry skin do not use products that create bubbles.

Ohh I didnt know that! Thanks, Shama. Anyway, Safflower oil is good for our skin. I am using Colonial Dames Vitamin E Skin Oil and the ingredients are Safflower Oil, Grapeseed Oil and tocopheryl acetate. I must say that these mix of oils are amazing. They really work together to make my skin smooth and moisturised. In addition, although this product is a little bit sticky, it has no fragrance and it doesnt make me feel oily at all. I feel like there's nothing on my skin although I put on lots of this oil.

Water will keep your complexion smooth and glowing but if you have dry skin problem you would need some external skin care treatment. That means you can save your money which you would have spent in visiting beauty parlors and saloons.

A rose and lime body lotion is perfect for softening dry, chapped skin. Mix 3 tbsps of rose water with 1 tbsp of glycerin and 2 tbsps of lime juice and refrigerate until it sets. Then smooth onto your body for summer-ready skin!

The use of safflower oil for dry skin is advised as it is said to help maintain elasticity in the skin and is said to be specially beneficial for sensitive skin. If you decide to try the oil instead of a moisturizer, but aren't happy that it is odorless, you could mix it with a very small amount of almond oil. Cold pressed, organic safflower oil is proclaimed to be wondrous for some skin problems, particularly acne. As safflower oil is a good natural source of omega-6, it is less likely to form lumps or stick together. This tendency is owing to the fact that the molecules repel each other, thus making it more disposed to disperse and stay fluid

# Safflower oil is safe for everyday use. Use a small amount first, and test it on an inconspicuous area of dry skin. Wait at least 24 hours to makes sure no allergic reactions occur. If skin reacts positively to the safflower oil, use as needed on dry areas. Skin that is prone to acne will be more likely to experience a breakout, as with any oily product. If using on the face, spot treat the dry areas with a cotton swab to avoid breakouts or over-oily sections of the face. Safflower oil is colorless and odorless, so it will not irritate users with sensitive smell or sensitive skin.

Safflower oil also promotes hair growth and a healthy skin as it contains vitamin E. People who have dry, permed as well as colored hair are recommended to get a regular safflower oil massage for healthy looking hair. This odorless oil is mild and has a very light texture, and so easily absorbs into the scalp. People who are suffering from excess hair fall can find effective hair regrowth with the application of safflower oil on the hair.

Safflower oil is extremely rich (approximately 77%) in polyunsaturated linoleic acid (omega-6 Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)), and also contains 10% saturated fats and 13% oleic acid (omega-9s - monosaturates). The oil also contains high levels of Vitamin E (43mg/100g), alpha-tocopherol (34.1mg/100g) and phytosterols (444mg/100g). Safflower oil can be used to prevent and treat EFA deficiencies in the diet.

safflower oil is used as a lubricant with occlusive properties, meaning that it acts as a protective barrier to prevent water from leaving your skin. It works with your skin to soften dryness, smooth roughness and soothe some skin problems. You might find it in products such as moisturizers, conditioners and facial cleansers

I will have to try safflower oil. I swear I have the world's dryest skin. I find drinking plenty of water helps, but doesn't solve the whole problem. I also use calendula on my hands, but it is too expensive for use on my whole body (particularly arms), so I'll give the oil a try.

Safflower oil, like olive oil, is very high in linoleic acid, . Your skin makes linoleic acid to help keep it soft, keep the moisture level up by slowing the drying effects of wind and low humidity and seal in moisture after a shower or bath. Skin oils also act as barriers to exterior pollutants.

using safflower oil on the skin to improve texture and overall appearance. Well I think I've found the fountain of youth. This stuff is amazing. I've spent so much on over the counter beauty products from Clinique to neutrogena and nothing has made my skin so radiant.
I apply it at night before bed or I'm at home for the day I use it as a light moisturizer. It's pretty much odorless and lite as compared to olive oil which many stars are currently using on their skin.

I have really dry skin too, so I use the product called "Cetaphil". I got this for a gift but I think that you can find it at Wal-Mart. It's a moisturizing cream and there's no fragrance! It works really well and I'm still using it even now! It makes your skin healthy. I use this every morning and sometimes after I wash my hands! ~ DON"T USE COLD WATER...that's a reason that makes your skin dry

A study showed that when linoleic acid was applied to the skin for one month it caused a reduction in the size of blackheads and whiteheads. This is an encouraging sign for people who have acne and have a problem using moisturizers because they clog the pores and lead to breakouts. Safflower seed oil is the best source of linoleic acid, although grapeseed oil and sunflower oil also have significant amounts.
