Delayed periods or Irregular menstrual periods have become very common these days for a lot of
women in their reproductive age and they suffer great agonies when their period
does not come on time. A delay of 4-5 days may be fine but if it exceeds 8
days, then it's certainly a cause for concern.
In this post, I'll be sharing highly effective Indian home remedies for your delayed periods.
I'd been a long sufferer of irregular periods during my teenage to early twenties. I've tried most of the recipes here, along with Kapalabhati pranayama, yoga poses, mudras and other lifestyle habits.
Now my periods are extremely regular like clockwork; not a day less or more than 28. When I look back, I'm surprised how I managed those years of anxiety and fear about my late periods.
Possible Causes of Delayed Periods
Irregularity in menstruation can be due to a number of causes. There may be underdevelopment or congestion of genital organs.
Constitutional diseases, like anemia, tuberculosis and even chronic malaria are some diseases also commonly responsible for causing scanty menses at prolonged intervals.
Some women suffer from endocrinal disorders, like hypothyroidism, toxic goiter, PCOS/ PCOD and other hormonal disturbances.
The best thing for those who are bugged by the problem of delayed and irregular periods would be to consult a gynecologist who, after thorough check-up, can find out the cause and treat you accordingly.
After ascertaining the cause for your irregular menstruation, you may try some of these effective home-remedies. Pregnancy is also the cause of a missed / late period. So you might want to take a pregnancy test, before trying these remedies.

Indian Home Remedies For Delayed or Late Periods
1. Papaya (Unripe preferred)
Green unripe papaya is also useful in case of a delayed or late period. Cut a few pieces of raw papaya and eat half a bowl of such pieces or else you can make a simple salad from papaya and have it. However if you cannot get unripe papaya, you can make do with with ripe ones as well, but unripe ones are most effective.
2. Aloe vera
*Intake of aloe vera juice is found to be highly effective when one has a problem of irregular periods. One should start having half a glass of pure aloe juice on an empty stomach once in the morning and another half glass in the evening.Refer to this article if you want to know the procedure of making fresh aloe juice at home. However, instead of adding any fruit juice as suggested in that article, add only pure water to it.
If making fresh aloe juice regularly is a bother for you and you have a lot of aloe plants growing at home, you may prepare aloe-sugar syrup to store it for 1-2 months.
For that you have to extract aloe-juice from the leaves of aloe plants and mix it with almost equal amounts of sugar and prepare a syrupy mixture by boiling it over a low flame. When the mixture cools, store it in a glass bottle.
Have 1-2 tbsps of this syrup regularly the first thing in the morning. Alternatively, you can buy organic aloe vera juice from the market (Baba Ramdev's aloe vera juice is also good) and have it regularly twice a day as mentioned above.
* Another way is to scoop out some fresh aloe gel (excluding the yellow part) and mix it with some of jaggery (Gud) or brown sugar and have it regularly on an empty stomach in the morning and one more time in the evening.
Read the post Aloevera For Women's Health Issues for information (& home-remedies) on how aloevera can be used to tackle various women's health problems.
3. Til (Sesame ) & Jaggery / Molasses
Consuming sesame seeds in the later half of the cycle that is during the the luteal phase (approximately after day 14, if yours is a 28 days cycle) can help regulate your cycle as they help balance your hormones.Sesame seeds are full of lignans, which block excess estrogens. Buy sesame seeds here: the white variety and black varietyThey also contain essential fatty acids that promote optimal hormone production. In Ayurvedic parlance, jaggery is considered as a warm food and hence is helpful in bringing on a period. Furthermore, it is high in iron and helps with anemia too; good for those with scanty menses too. Buy jaggery here.
Both Sesame and jaggery contain calcium; sesame, particularly has a very high content of calcium and therefore helps with PMS too. Black sesame seeds have more calcium and a better nutritional value; so these are highly preferable. But even white sesame seeds will do.
* An old folk remedy recommends thoroughly chewing and swallowing one tablespoon of sesame seeds 2 weeks prior to the scheduled date of menses can bring on a period on time.
* A decoction of cumin (jeera) and gingelly (sesame) (Til) seeds, sweetened with jaggery helps to set off menstruation. Add 1 tbsp each of jeera and Til in water and boil it till the water reduces to three fourths. Add some jaggery to taste.
Alternatively you might try making Til (Sesame) ladoos (see recipe here) and have 1 such ladoo, the first thing thing in the morning followed by half a glass of cow's milk.
*If you do not want to eat seasame laddoos, you can dry roast 11/2 tbsp of sesame seeds, mix it with jaggery powder / molasses around 2 tsp and have it during your luteal phase.
*Take equal quantities of Til (sesame seeds), Pippali (Long Pepper), Black Pepper, Dry Ginger and Bharangi (see info about Bharangi here). All these can be procured from an Ayurvedic pharmacy.
Powder them and store it in a bottle. Have 1 tsp of this powder with jaggery 2 times a day, the first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and once in the evening.
* If you have sugar cravings during the luteal phase, which is most common, eating a piece of jaggery or a spoonful of molasses / jaggery syrup instead of gorging on sweets will help. Buy jaggery syrup here.
Jaggery also releases endorphins, the happy hormones that will help you deal with mood swings of PMS and as mentioned earlier it's calcium content works to your benefit during PMS.
4. Amla (Indian Gooseberries
Chew fresh, ripe Indian gooseberries (Amla) early in the morning. If fresh ones are not available, you can make do with Amla juice as well. Take 3 tsp of Amla juice and mix it with 3 tsp of honey and have it.
You can use Amla juice from Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali pharmacy or any other organic Amla juice such as this. Do not eat anything for at least one hour after that.
Since fresh Amla is not available at all times, you can use dry Amla powder as well. It’s readily available at any Ayurvedic pharmacy. Mix 3 grams of dry Amla powder with water or honey and have it at night after your dinner.
Regular intake of Amla removes toxins from blood, aids the formation of red blood corpuscles, relieves urinary problems and helps in irregular menstruation.
Try this for 2 months at least and you’ll notice the difference. You’ll feel more youthful and energetic as well.
5. Fenugreek (Methi)
Soak 1½ tsp of fenugreek (methi) seeds in water the previous night and in the morning you can see that they swell up. Have it regularly on an empty stomach.
Alternatively, you can try fenugreek tea. You can use soaked fenugreek seeds for this purpose also. Boil a cup of water and add 1½ tsp of fenugreek seeds and let it simmer on a low flame.
When the water reduces to three-fourths, turn off heat and have it in sips when it is sufficiently hot. You may add jaggery (Amazon) / molasses / brown sugar (Amazon) for taste if you wish.
Have this fenugreek tea twice a day, once on an empty stomach and once at night before going to bed.
Fenugreek tea is especially helpful for those who are bugged by PCOS / PCOD problems as it helps normalize blood sugar levels.
If taking fenugreek seeds in the morning or fenugreek tea is not viable for you, you may take it once in the afternoon by mixing a tsp of fenugreek seeds powder (buy from here) in a glass of thin buttermilk.
Having Fenugreek helps in resolving menstrual problems including irregular and late periods as well as leucorrhoea or white discharge. It also reduces swelling in the uterus and cleans the uterine vessels.
7. Horsegram
Horsegram is also called Hurali in Kannada and Kulith in Konkani / Marathi. Eating dishes that have Horsegram (Kulath) can also bring about your period as horsegram is believed to be heat-producing food as per Ayurveda.
It’s also good for diabetics. You can have it as Horsegram Saar (soup) (See recipe here) or this chutney or dosa.
8. Drumstick
Drumstick leaves are also beneficial in case of delayed or late periods. A week before your expected period; try to consume dishes made of drumstick (Sahijan). Dishes & sabjis made of drumstick leaves are especially recommended.Drumstick leaves have huge medicinal uses too. Read about it in this post. (Also read Skincare and beauty with drumstick leaves).
To bring on a period on time, you can try this old folk remedy. 3-4 days before the expected date of the period, take tender leaves of drumstick (1 - 2 tbsp), arka flower petals(Ekkada huvu in Kannada) ( 2-3 petals only) and grind it to make a paste.
Add some jaggery to it and consume it till you get your period.(Arka flowers and leaves should not be taken in large quantities as they can induce vomiting. If you are concerned, better skip the Arka flower and use the drumstick leaves paste only.)
Now the scientific name of Arka flower is Calotropis gigantea. In Tamil, it is called as Erukku. Read more about it in Wikipedia.
Now most of you are familiar with the garland of leaves used to adorn the idols of Lord Hanuman. These are the leaves of Arka flower. Now I'm sure you can recognise this plant.
Garlands made with Arka flower are also used to adorn Lord Ganesha's Vigrahas. Arka plant has a plethora of medicinal uses. However it is not be consumed by pregnant women as it is supposed to induce abortion.

Other Herbal Remedies For tackling Delayed / Irregular menstruation
* Make a decoction of the aerial roots of banyan and consume with half a glass of cow’s milk at bedtime for at least 3 menstrual cycles.* Take a decoction of the roots of bitter gourd (karela) at least twice a day; this usually makes the period to commence.
* Saunf (fennel) seeds also found to be helpful in menstrual irregularities.
* Boil the roots of the fig (anjeer) and take the filtered decoction for a few weeks to normalize the menstrual cycle.
* A small cupful of the decoction prepared from the leaves or the seeds of coriander (cilantro) thrice a day is found to be useful in regulating the menstrual cycle.
* A cup of grape juice everyday is also believed to bring regularity of the menstrual cycle.
* Take a teaspoonful of radish seeds and grind it with water to make a fine paste. Mix this paste with a cup of buttermilk and drink.
* In scanty menses: Drink a decoction of Manjistha / Indian madder roots for an entire cycle i.e. everyday to correct anemia, if any and establish a healthy flow of menstrual blood.

Pranayam and Yoga for treating irregular periods
* Practising Kapalabhati Pranayam for 5 minutes each time, twice a day helps to regularize the menstrual cycle and also alleviates other disorders of the reproductive system. Agnisara kriya is another such practice that helps.* Padahastana is a yogic pose that can help a great deal in making your periods regular. For more information on this asana, read this post and watch the video here.
Other poses that help are Trikonasana (triangle pose), supta baddha konasana, Titliasana (the butterfly pose), Shalabhasana (locust pose), Bhujangasana (the serpent pose), Malasana etc. Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation pose) also helps tremendously.
However all these asanas have to be learnt under a competent yoga guru and not to be attempted on your own.
Mudras For Delayed Periods and better Reproductive Health:
Along with yoga and pranayam, performing certain mudras / hand gestures will also help. ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #410: What did you doctor say? Did you confirm with him/her whether you can conceive or not? Please take your reports to a reputed gynaec and let him/her decide what course of action to take. Don't just jump to your own conclusions and lose heart.
ReplyDeleteThe main reasons irregular periods are
ReplyDelete1 .Blockage of blood circulation to the lower abdomen area due to lack of physical exercise.
2. Functioning of the thyroid glands is not fair.
3. Fibroid in the uterus and/ or cyst in the ovaries
4. Poor health condition and / or lack of exercise

ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #415: You should have consulted a doctor In the meantime, try aloe juice, papaya etc. Also do Kapalabhati Pranayam regularly. All this will surely bring on a period. You can also try other remedies mentioned in the post if you can get the ingredients and also read through the comments posted by others. ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #418: I really don't know whether Noni Gold (also known as Morinda citrifolia, Indian mulberry) Juice can help with irregular periods. According to Wikipedia, it is used to treat menstrual cramps, bowel irregularities, diabetes, liver diseases, and urinary tract infections. Recent research has also found that it helps shrink cancer tumour cells when the study was conducted on animals. You better consult some herbologist in this matter. Why don't you try aloe juice, Kapalabhati Pranayam etc.?
ReplyDelete@Maria (comment #419): If the doctor has found nothing wrong with you, I think you should wait for a few more months to conceive naturally. But if you are above 30, better talk to your doctor regarding this. And in the meantime practice Kapalabhati Pranayam in the first half of your cycle (the first 12-14 days.)
hi Aparna..myself Gayu..I am 19..my periods are irregular..m very tensed..since 7months i took triqular tablets suggested by my gynecologist..my last cycle occured on 21st nov,2011..but havent yet occured in december month..please suggest something..i'l b very grateful to u..
ReplyDeletepls do rply on anokhi.angel92@gmail.com
rply as soon as pocbl..
@Gayu (comment #421): Did you try the home-remedies such drinking aloe juice, eating papaya etc? Also a regular practice of Kapalabhati Pranayam twice a day (for 5 minutes) will help in regularizing your cycle. Since you have already been to a gynecologist, I believe you don't have problems such as PCOS etc. Probably you are just stressed. So try to remain calm. You can wait for 4-5 days, but if you don't get your period after that, go to your doc once again. Don't worry. Please start doing Kapalabhati Pranayam; it will help you tremendously. Your period will soon become regular over a period of time.
ReplyDeleteplease help me my period is gating every month but current month is no period.
ReplyDeleteHi Jayanti, how many days have elapsed since your expected period date? If your period is late by more than a week or by 15 days, please consult a doctor at the earliest. But it's only 4-5 days you can probably wait for 3-4 days but not more than that. Do not worry much; stress can also cause periods to get delayed. You can also try Kapalabhati Pranayam, drink aloe juice, eat papaya etc.
ReplyDelete(Maria). Thank you a lot i am only 19 yrs old, now i have another question would it be a good idea to take aloe vera juice right now? i really wanna regulate my period asap!
ReplyDelete@Maria (comment #425): Sure, you can take. Take 1 tbsp of concentrated aloe juice (gel) (freshly prepared is the best) once on an empty stomach in the morning and once in the evening or at night. This should help you regulate the periods.
ReplyDeleteHey Aparna the coriander seeds were helpful I got my periods today!! thank you soo much!!! But do u know any remedy for the tummy-ache associated with periods?

ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI read this blog and is really very good.
I have a question, my periods are delayed by 4 days this month. Every month i have regular periods. I am little worried about it. I had papaya juice and also dates but it doesn't work. I have cramps from 4 days but no use. Can you please suggest me what do i do?
Thank you.
@Anonymous comment #431: Thanks for the kind words about my blog! Since your periods are always regular and only this month it has been delayed by 4 days, you need not worry much. You can wait for 3 more days and you are likely to get it. In the meantime along with papaya, try aloe juice too and practise Kapalabhati regularly. But after 3-4 days you don't get your period, I suggest you consult your doctor.
ReplyDeleteHi APARNA.. iam 22yrs,unmarried i have delayed periods for last 4mths. consulted Dr and still facing the problem.i am too scared... please help me
ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #433: What did your doctor say? What is it that is causing your periods to be delayed? Anyway don't worry or get scared. There is always some solution for your problem. First get a thorough investigation done from a gynaec. Side-by-side try home-remedies and Kapalabhati Pranayam too. All this should help! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteif you have very regular cycles and they never late even by a day then it would be considered late, but if its normal for you to have a few days either way id wait a few more days and be considered late, if theres a chance youre pregnant then take a test. you can sometimes ovulate late during some cycles which is what makes your period late amongst other things like pregnancy or stress.
ReplyDeletehi i m shannu....
ReplyDeleteactually i have irregular period from two months ...i m getting pain too.even i had two papaya ,but no use wat to do..
hi Shannu, please consult a doctor first to find the cause of your delayed periods. Also do Kapalabhati Pranayam for 5 minutes twice a day. See this post for details. Try drinking half a cup of aloe-juice once in the morning on an empty stomach and once in the evening. You may also try eating Til (sesame) Laddus. For recipe check this.
ReplyDeletehi i am suvarna, i am not pregnant bht my period are delayed for 2 and a half mounths i'm really scared about this. please tell me is there any good home remedy to regulate my period i'm 24
ReplyDeletedon't have any kids and want to have soon please help me
Hi Suvarna, you should consult a doctor at the earliest to know the reason for your delayed periods. As for getting regular periods doing Kapalabhati and yogasanas like Suryanamaskar helps a lot. You may try taking 1 tbsp of aloe juice early in the morning on an empty stomach, but avoid it if you get pregnant.
ReplyDeletemy name is aarti sharma,i m 21 year old unmarried girl.
ReplyDeletemy period is started when i was 16 year old, i have not got my period in a regular way. in every period i was got my next period after three months. i was also consult to the doctor and she give me tonic, but that tonic was not give a sufficient result. plz suggest me what i do.i m very worried about it.
Hi Aarti, it's normal to get late periods when you are in your teens. But since your periods have not become regular even now, it's better if you consult some other reputed gynaecologist in your area. He/She will examine you thoroughly and pinpoint your problem. I suggest you practise Kapalabhati Pranayam an dYogasanas like Suryanamaskar, Baddhakonasana, titli asana etc regularly. After a few months you will begin to see the result. Good luck!
ReplyDeletehi Aparna thank u so much.i will try aloe juice. i hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteHi Aparna, i had pill abortion last month on feb 6th, i read tht aftr taking abortion pill d period will be late for a month ,,is there any remedies to come period as early as possible
ReplyDeleteRamya (comment #442): I think your doctor is the best person to advice you on this. Better consult him/her in this regard and don't take any pills or anything of that sort for getting early periods without your doctor's recommendation.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteread your blog found it benefiting...I am 27 years old, married and had my last periods on 16 Jan . And now having waited for a month my periods are not coming. Though I have pain in my breasts like usually I have before my periods but I am worried about my periods. This is happening for the second time after after 2004. In 2004 when my periods did not come I went to a doc and she gave me some ayurvedic medicine and it happened in 3-4 days. Pls suggest I am worried.
Hi Neeta Sree, pain in the breasts around your period time is quite normal; so don't worry about that. Since your periods are otherwise normal and only once or twice you had this problem, I think you need not worry much. Since your period has been delayed by more than a month, did you go through a pregnancy test to check if you are pregnant? And you should not have waited for so long, you should consult a gyneaec immediately to know the reason for your delayed period.
ReplyDeletehey am a 22 year old unmarried woman. my periods is not came for 6 months that is till now
ReplyDeletei hav 100 kg weight
ReplyDeletei wanna get periods in regular also pls help mee
@Arya: If you haven't got your period since last 6 months then you should consult a doctor at the earliest. For getting regular periods, you have to reduce your weight, exercise well, particularly yogasanas like Suryanamaskar etc will help. so also will Kapalabhati. Anyways first talk to your docotr and know the cause of your delayed period.
ReplyDeletehi
ReplyDeletei am Hema, i m having PCOD and irregular periods, trying for a child. i m started doing kapalbhati, after a week i got my periods, but it its very less, shall i continue of doing kapalbhati until getting heavy periods? plz suggest me
Hi Hema, sure you can continue doing Kapalabhati but first of all get yourself thoroughly examined by a gynaecologist to find the reason for your scanty periods.
ReplyDeletehello aparna di i am 21 years old i am suffering from the irregularities of periods even i have no periods since three months .i am feeling so depressed. the fat on body is increasing especiaaly on belly. please tell me any home remeady as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS SO MUCH
(WAITING FOR UR ADVICE SO MUCH)
@Anonymous comment #451: From the symptoms that you have mentioned it appears that you have a pcos /pcod problem. By the way, do you have a problem of unwanted hair on chin etc? It's better if you get yourself properly checked by a gynaecologist to know what exactly is causing irregular periods. You should do Kapalabhati Pranayam regularly (only avoid it during your periods). As I have already mentioned in the post as well as in the comments, practise of Kapalabhati Pranayam for 5 minutes twice a day helps a lot in menstrual problems. You may also consume aloevera juice (diluted by water, half a cup every day once in the morning on an empty stomach and once in the evening. Many other remedies are already mentioned in the post. Do go through them. You can also try yoga poses; Suryanamaskara is especially useful. Do read through all the other comments as well. And don't worry too much!
ReplyDeletehi i am not undurstanding why my periods are late after marriage i think am pregnent but i get periods 15 days late i get depressed what i have to do now
ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #453: Please consult a doctor regarding this! Di you undergo a pregnancy test to confirm your pregnancy? If your periods were never late but it's happening only after marriage, it's better if you seek a doctor's advice!

@vaani: If this is the first time that your period has delayed, then I think there is not much cause for worry. But since it's already 15 days late, I suggest you consult a gynaec immediately to know the reason for the delay. In the meantime you can practise Kapalabhati Pranayam. Don't just sit around at home, exercise whenever you get a chance. You can also try drinking aloevera juice, papaya etc. Also read comment #452 for more details. And most important don't worry too much! Stress also causes period to get delayed.

@priyanka: Glad to know that it worked for you! Continue with exercises and pranayama!
ReplyDelete@vaani:Please refer to the post Home Remedies for Anaemia. I hope you are doing Kapalabhati Pranayam and other exercises. Also have you tried the aloe-juice, papaya and other remedies mentioned in the post? Since the doctor has said that there is no other problem with you except that you are anaemic, I think this could be causing your periods to be late. But if you are in doubt, get a second opinion from another doctor -just a suggestion from my side.
Hi aparna,my name is sushmita
ReplyDeleteur remedy really works thank you so much but do i have to drink aloe juice everytime to get my periods
Hi Sushmita, it feels good to know that my home-remedies ahve workded for you. If your periods have become regular, you may slowly discontinue. But it's not harmful if you take 1 tablespoon of aloejuice once in the morning on an empty stomach and once in the evening. An Ayurvedic dietician actually recommended it for women who are having difficulty in conceiving.
ReplyDeleteHow many times a day can I drink Aloe Vera Juice?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: You can have it twice a day.
ReplyDeleteHi Aparna, my name is Suma, last month i had a delay in my periods for 2months, i saw your blog and tried aloe vero juice, after two days i got my period. am 29 years old, 5.6ft height and my weight is 76. Doctor is telling am having PCOD. I had PCOD problem in 2009 and i took treatment during that time and it got cured. Now once again am having same problem. What shall i do i dont have children, i need to conceive. Is there any home remedy to get rid of PCOD. Please help.
ReplyDeleteHi Suma, having PCOD doesn't mean you cannot have children. Visit a good infertility specialist in your city and get yourself thoroughly examined. With proper medication, women with PCOD can conceive though it may take some time. Also it's not possible to cure PCOD completely. You can only manage it. Like trying to maintain a healthy weight, following an active lifestyle, eating low-glycemic index food. Exercise, yoga, Pranayam & meditation will help.
ReplyDeleteHi Aparna, I'm almost 20 years old and missed my period for like six months. I've heard that parsley works like magic but it is not available at where I live. I'm sure that I'm not pregnant; but I'm not sure about other reasons. I just want that my period starts as soon as possible. PLEASE SUGGEST ME SOME HOME REMEDIES (WHICH I CAN MAKE FROM THE SPICES AVAILABLE AT BANGLADESH.) PLEASE DO REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE...
ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #471: I've replied to your mail. I hope you'll benefit from my advice! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHi. I have PCOD and for the past five years i have taken medicines like metformin and one time undergone laproscopy. Twice aborted still dont have a baby and jus now started homeopathy treatment. For the past 5 months i didnt get period please help me
ReplyDeletehi aparna,
ReplyDeletethis is suma here. i took advice from you last month for my delayed periods. you adviced me to take aloe vera juice, grape juice and practice yoga. i followed your advice and got my periods for 42 days (before it was 55 days) but the problem is i got bleeding only few drops and stopped for 3 days. i think it hadn't completed/not perfect. what shall i do. please suggest.
@Anonymous comment #473: Do consult a good fertility expert. Under proper medication, you should be able to conceive. Just don't lose hope. In the meantime, continue doing Suryanamaskar and Kapalabhati and try not to put on too much weight.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #474 (Suma): Suma, it's better if you consult a gyneac in this matter. He/She will be able to point out the exact reason for your scanty menses by conducting tests or by taking a scan.
hi aparma,
ReplyDeleteI am 5days delayed. And i am breastfeed. And i'm Not yet ready f0r an0ther pregnancy.. H0w can i have my mens? Pls help.

ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #476: Did you do a urine test with a home pregnancy test kit to find out whether you are pregnant or not. If you are pregnant, please consult a doctor. If not, just wait for a few days and try some of the home-remedies mentioned above and you may get your period in a few days time.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #477: Please follow the remedies mentioned in the post. Especially do Kapalabhati Pranayam and regular yoga and exercise and keep your weight normal. Read through all the other comments as well.

@Anonymous comment #482: You should take your doctor's advice regarding this! As for home-remedies, I've already mentioned a number of them in the post as well as in the comments. Try Kapalabhati pranayam, do yoga, try to maintain ideal weight, aloe juice therapy etc. Read all that and do try them out.
ReplyDelete@Jayanti shukla: Since your periods were always regular, you should have visited a gyneac at the earliest. Have you taken a pregnancy test? Please visit a doctor at the earliest to know the cause of your missing period first! By the way, my name is not jyoti.

ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #486: For your sister's infertility problems ask her to consult a suitable gynaecologist (especially a specialist in treating infertility issues). Your sister and your husband both shoyld get themselves thoroughly checked to know the cause for the delay n conceiving.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI want to delay my periods to concieve in some certain time. Please suggest some herbal remedies.
@Anonymous comment #488: It's not possible to delay periods to get pregnant. But if you conceive, automatically your won't get your periods (however there are a few cases where some women do get scanty flow /or a normal period even when they are pregnant). First of all consult a gynecologist to ensure that nothing is wrong with you. He/she will be able to guide you better. Don't put off visiting your gynaec if you are not getting pregnant especially if it is more than a year since you got married.
ReplyDeletei had ceserian delivery and having fat belly plz suggest a home remedy to reduce belly fat

ReplyDeletehey..
ReplyDeletemy periods are delayed by 3 days now.. have had 15 dates almost, drank aleo vera juice, had 1 full papaya, tried almonds.. but still nothing seems to be working.. please suggest!
If nothing seems to be working, then please consult a gyneaec. If this is the first time that your period is late it isn't a cause for worry. Your can wait for 4-5 days and see.
ReplyDeleteI had scanty periods last month...and i have scanty periods this month also..what should i do to increase the blood flow? is it normal?i am worried please help?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #494: Please consult a doctor regarding this. If it's due to anemia, eat iron-rich foods.

Thanks Aparna for your useful tips. i have my fallopian tubes blocked as well my period is irregular. I really really want to get pregnant. Do you have any remedies advice for opening the fallopian tubes? thank you
ReplyDelete@Anon Comment #507: I really do not have any remedies for blocked fallopian tubes. However try Kapalabhati as it helps improve reproductive health. You can talk to your doctor about this blocked fallopian tubes. If you want to get pregnant, you may have to go in for IVF. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI am. 21yr old girl. I am not getting periods regularly.....I consult my doctors....they are giving tablets that time I getting periods.....they are saying everything is normal in your health......when I stop tablet it becomes abnormal...for last 3 month I didn't get any periods.....I am following diet also.I am walking 2km daily..my wait is 49 only...I need natural way to solve the problem
ReplyDelete@Kiruthika Kirthi: If there is no problem, then why does the doctor give tablets to get periods? And why are you not getting periods without he tablets? I think you should consult another reputed gynaecologist and get yourself thoroughly investigated for any problem. And do that at the earliest. In the meantime, continue with your exercise, walking and do Kapalabhati regularly.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteHi Simran, I deleted the contents of your comment, because all kinds of people, including children read my blog. I hope you understand. If your period has been delayed by a month and pregnancy test is negative, I think you should consult a gynecologist at the earliest. If your periods were always irregular, I suggest you try Kapalabhati Pranayam regularly along with yoga exercises like suryanamaskar.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDelete@Meenakshi: If the pregnancy test shows a negative result, most probably you are not pregnant. I suggest you visit a gynaecologist at the earliest to know the exact reason for your delayed period.
ReplyDeleteHii
ReplyDeleteafter 20days from due date my periods start but its not properly or can say its light comparing to my cycle what should home remedy i take to corect it??
hi simran, did you get yourself investigated by a doctor? If not, then please do at the earliest. If you are anaemic, your period could be light, but then there are many other reasons as well. So better talk to your gynaec. In the meantime, continue with Kapalabhati and other exercises.
ReplyDeleteHi Aparna,
ReplyDeleteAm Suguna 26 yrs married 2yrs has been over. i was pergnant and unfortunately i got aborted after that my periods are irregular i have undergone all the test evverything seems to be normal. Pls give me any remedies to clear my irregular periods.
If everthing seems to be normal with you, there is no cause of worry. In course of time, you'll conceive and have a baby. You are still young. So don't worry. In the meantime, practise Kapalabhati Pranayam regularly. Also if you are comfortable with yogasanas, do Surya Namaskar as well. Go for regular walks. Always maintain an active lifestyle and keep your weight in check. Since your periods have become irregular now, you might as well get a second opinion from some other reputed gynaecologist.
ReplyDeletehey i am 21 years unmarried women my period is delaed for more than 2 weeks and there is no sign of period i am very upset because of this please tell me some solution so that my period can come ?????? i was so scared and i also test the pregnecy it came negative plzzzz telll mmeee plzzzzzz i request you
ReplyDelete@Anonymous comment #519: Is this the first time that your period was delayed? Since the pregnancy test has shown negative, there is no need to worry on that front. But still, I suggest you visit a gnaec as soon as possible. You may try the home-remedies mentioned in the post, in the meantime. Specially the aloe juice and Kapalabhati Pranayam.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteAloe vera juice worked and I got my perods in 2 days. Thank you for all the help. I am now taking it regularly !
Hi aprana I m 25 n I live in uk !! I missed my period n it's been 23 day!! I went to doc n she did urine test n it ws negative so I m not pergent ?? It been two yrs of marriage before I use to have regular period but suddenly I miss it !! Is it bcz I m 25 n I want to knw how n whn n what proportion should I take tht jaggery sesame n it's raw cumin seed?! N I can use supermarket alo juice pls help me out !! N missing period mean I will never get pergent?? Pls help me !! I m so much depressed n worried??
ReplyDeleteHi arpana can u pls tell me how did you prepare tht decoction of cumin sesame n jaggery ?? N whn to take ths n in which form mean liquid or??pls tell me
ReplyDelete@Anonymous #522, #523: You can add 1 tbsp each of cumin and sesame in water and boil it till it reduces to 3/4th. You can add jaggery for taste while boiling the liquid. Have this on an empty stomach in the morning. Alternatively, you can try eating Til laddoos. Here's the recipe for it. Yes, you can have organic aloe-juice available in teh market. If you are taking aloe juice on an emtpy stomach, take the cumin-sesame decotion in the evening. You are only 25. So you have nothing to worry about for at least 10 years. However, I suggest you visit a gynaecologist to know what is causing your irregular periods and get it corrected soon. Yoga and Kapalabhati Pranyam will help tremendously in getting a regular period. So practise it regularly.
ReplyDeletehi m 24 yr old in month of JAN FEB 2014 i had only browndischarge not red bleeding in march i have got bleeding but not much but better than jan feb in april m again brown discharge not proper bleeding m very upset please help me
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous, I think you should not have waited for so long. Please consult a doctor at the earliest.
Deletei am 26 yr....married...i think i am pregnant , missed first cycles ....wat i can do for it to prevent.
ReplyDeleteDid you do a HPT (Home Pregnancy Test) and find out? If you are already pregnant, then go to your doctor. He/She is the suitable person to advise you. This post is only for those woman who are having late periods or delayed periods due to problems like PCOD, thyroid, stress etc. And if you have missed a period due ot pregnancy then these remedies aren't for you and also these are certainly not meant to terminate a pregnancy.
Deletei have problem of cysts in ovaries , so iam not getting periods from last two months ,,, checked with docter as well ,,took maprate and injection ,,, but did not work... so will these remedies work in cysts conditions as well
ReplyDeletePractise the yoga poses and pranayam (breathing exercises) mentioned in the post. They will surely help in improving your reproductive health. Yoga in conjunction with medicine prescribed by your doctor should help. About other herbal remedies such as intake of aloe juice etc, I guess you better discuss it with your doctor to make sure that it does not interfere with the medication prescribed by him/her.
DeleteIf I take the raw aloe would it help? ?
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous, I've already written in the post that you can take raw aloe juice or you can even scoop out the aloe gel from the leaf (with jaggery if you want) and have it.
Deletehi.....please help me out i'm 26 having good sexual life married last year but as working can't afford to be mom........i have aborted my foetus of 2months 6months ago....but after thaaat no proper mensturations......pls help me in ds month i've missed my period completely.....don't want to get pregnant....test is negative........but.....so helpless,.....n stressed pls answer me
ReplyDeleteI cannot give you any medical advice. This post is only for those girls/women who have problem of late periods due to problems like pcod, thyroid, stress etc. and not for those who don't want to get pregnant or those who want to abort he fetus. I hope you terminated your pregnancy at a reputed clinic. Please contact your gynaec at the earliest regarding your problem .
DeleteThere is no symtyms of pregnancy bt my period is delayed and its nw 6 days r above when my period hadnt come can i nw any remedy and white water hve been coming wht can i do for it by which my periods again start
ReplyDeleteDid you do the home pregnancy urine test? Was it positive or negative? Please do contact a doctor at the earliest. From your comment, it appears that it is the first time that your period has been delayed. A few days of delay is alright, but first ensure that you are not pregnant and then try home-remedies. Regarding the white discharge or white water, I suggest you talk to your doctor.
Deletei am 20 years unmarried girl. i m having my period on 6th feb.,2015...till that day i m not getting my period...sometimes it is like date were changing ...sometimes it were 6th and sometimes it were 20th...i want to come my period on time...give me suggestion..please.....
ReplyDelete@annu shukla: It's nearly 2 months since you had your last period. You should not have waited for so long dear. Please consult a doctor / gynaec at the earliest and seek his / her opinion. Home-remedies and exercise can be decided later.
DeleteHi aparna,
ReplyDeleteYou are so helpful and active in solving everybody's prob. I am so glad.. My prob is my menstrural cycle is 27 . from last 3 months it delayed by 5 days 7 n 10 now this month its early by 7 days... Whts the prob.. ?A week back i was suffering from urinary infection now on antibiotic...
If your period is late by one week or arrives 1 week earlier there is nothing to worry but anything more than that could pose a problem. In your case, sometimes it's late and this time it was early. So it's better to consult your gyneac. He/She is the best person to advice you.
DeleteHi aparna, preeti here
ReplyDeleteI had abortion in 4th week of pregnancy when i was newly married of 3th month.. Its since 10months now... And now i am trying to conceive does the abortion effect??
Preeti, are you the same person who posted the comment above (comment no 531)? After an abortion your periods may be errratic for a few months. But since 10 months have passed and if you still find that your period is irregular you need to talk to your doctor. I don't think you'll have problem conceiving the next time. But if you are concerned that you haven't got pregnant 10 months after your abortion, I suggest you get yourself properly investigated by a gyneaec.
DeleteYes aparna. Its preeti same 531 n 532 after abortion it was normal 27 cycle till 7 months and past 3 months its delayed by 5 , 7 and 10 days and this month again its early by 6 days..
ReplyDeletePreeti, do consult a gynaec at the earliest. And glad to know that you find my blog useful. Take care.
DeleteHi aparna. I missed my periods n its now 3 weeks. I m eating unriped papayas one or 2 slices a day. I m little worried. I hv done my pregnancy test its negative. Its been 20 days now. Plz help me.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: Since pregnancy test is negative and home remedies are not working for you, I suggest you visit a gynecologist at the earliest. Don't worry; everything will be fine.
DeleteIv been having irregular periods for 3yrs. Doctors told me that i have a mild pcos. So I switched to doing anulom -vilom and pranayam for a total of half hour a day(empty stomach),5 times a week. Continued for 6months, It got me started with regular periods.
ReplyDeleteThe problem came in after 3 months, the exercises don't seem to effect anymore :( iv not had periods for 45+days.
Is there anything left I can do? Narural things (as in the article ) don't work too well with me :(
Iv tried 3 homeopathic doctors for the same, but to no avail.
I'm fed of living like this,I feel so helpless at times. Is there any chance I can ever get a regular period? Can you suggest me something to regularise my periods? :(
Please reply soon :(
Anonymous: If home-remedies are not working for you, I suggest you get yourself examined by a competent gynecologist. That's all I can advise you and please don't worry too much; everything will be fine!
DeleteHi dear i m worried as i missed my period dnt want 2 b pregnant plz help as what wil get my periods back plz reply waiting for your answer
ReplyDeleteDid you do the urine pregnancy test? Was it postive or negative. If you are pregnant talk to your doctor. Home remedies to get a period mentioned here are for girls / women who have problems in getting their menses. Its not meant to abort the fetus. For that you have to talk to your doctor.
DeleteHi aparna , I'm raji I missed my periods and it's 55 days without it , I had pCod problem I gained weight too ,I m getting only white discharge, no pain in abdominal areas I urinate light yellow colour and some chemical smell , I am not pregnant and married 5 yrs back dint plan children cause I'm 23 now and still studying never had mensutral problem and no complain in sexual life but in recent times after intercourse my husband bleeded due to some slight scar on his pennies and it cured and after that in second attempt he got some scars around his pennies what could be the reason I'm scared, is this any problem for my mensutral period ?
ReplyDeletePlease consult a gynecologist at the earliest. Regarding your husband's problem also consult a reputed doctor. You can also try the yogasanas mentioned in the post along with your doctor's treatment.
DeleteHi. I had intercourse with protection on 1st jan. And 2nd is my periods date and still i haven't got my periods. I really don't think i'm pregnant and i didn't take an i pill after intercourse. Please help me regarding this please please i'm really very scared please.
ReplyDeleteIm Married.Last nov 26/11/2015 had an abortion, after that im undergone normal scanning, Dr said everything is perfect no need to D&C and also no Cyst in utreus. On Jan 1st &Jan31st had menses. But this time march still no menses, but I have all my PMS symptoms. We had one time unprotected sexual intercourse on past 1month he didnt ejaculate inside me.but this time still now no menses. What could it be? I know that after abortion missed period is normal. But kind of worried because i get my period regularly and having pms symptoms is a bit confusing. Im in Root canal Surgery-Treatment, almost its going to final stage-permant Fix.Having Amoxcillin 500mg,Zerodol, Rantac tablets,is this cause any side effects? Is this tablets cause missing periods? Liltle bit im stressed. Pls guide me. Awaiting for your reply. Thanks Dear
ReplyDeleteYou are right, periods may be a little erratic after a missed abortion but then you never know. Did you do a urine pregnancy test? If the test is positive, do consult your gynaec immediately and also mention about the pills that you are taking for root canal surgery. Your guess that the tabs you are taking might be reason for delayed periods could also be true. Or maybe your period is expected in a few days time, so you are experiencing PMS symptoms. Don't worry, take a UPT and consult your doctor at the earliest. Good luck!
DeleteThank you for your reply Aparna mam....
ReplyDeleteWill check and let you know......
hello, aprna i get my period on 28 april but after that it doesnt come so please tell me whats the reason behind this or what should i do i m getting so worry...
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous. Is this the first time this happened? If you are married and suspect that you may be pregnant, do take a Urine Pregnancy test and if positive, go to a doctor. If it's not pregnancy, it's better you consult a gyneaec at the earliest.
DeleteHi.. aparna, my name is priyanka i have had irregular period, last moth 7 days deley, and This month its dely 6 days but Period is not come and this month having unsecured sex so this is normal dealy period otherwise i am pregnant. Deletei am a 21 years unmarried girl. till the starting of period it was not regular. i had been suffered from tuberculosis at the of 9 and 17. first time i had suffered from lung TV and second time from thyroid TV. i have period every 2 month gap, often regularly... from last three moths i have had no period... what could be the reason behind it? moreover, i am trying loose my weight and i am eating less carbohydrate food but my weight is gaining day after day. i feel cold most often without fever though now it is summer. please help me... i am very anxious.
ReplyDeleteFarzana, perhaps you feel cold due to thyroid problem. Do get yourself thoroughly checked by a competent doctor. Also your metabolism seems to be slow due to the same thyroid issue as you are not losing weight in spite of cutting down on carbohydrates. An expert doctor will do proper investigations and advise you properly. In the meantime, do continue doing exercises, yoga and pranayama (only after learning it from competent yoga guru). Best of luck! And don't worry too much!
DeleteI had irregular periods at the age of 17. I tried home remedies. I ate aloe vera weekly once at first in empty stomach. Now i have regular periods. And I am 21 now eating aloe vera monthly once.
ReplyDeleteHi I am sramana 20 years old delayed period for 6 days for how long I have to drink aloe vera juice pls suggest
ReplyDeleteIs this the first time that you had a delayed period or are your periods irregular always? If you always had irregular periods, it is better to consult a gynecologist and undergo through investigation. For now you can try aloe juice, half cup on empty stomach in the morning and half cup in the evening till you get a period. Also do kaplabhati pranyam, other yoga poses, mudras etc. mentioned in the article
