Get rid of your skin's oiliness in summer with clay masks

In summer there is a tendency for increased secretion of the skin’s natural oils. So one ends up looking oily and sticky. And as a consequence of this one is likely to develop blackheads or has to cope up with a flare up of acne. At any time, it is bad for skins to have blemishes, spots, or sport an uncared-for look. More so, in summer, when the world probably sees rather more of you than is normally displayed.

How to counteract this? A scrupulous cleansing regimen to prevent a grease build-up on the surface of your skin. Besides washing your face more than twice a day with a suitable cleanser and dabbing astringents to tighten your pores, you need to use a clay mask once in a week or twice a week if you feel too sticky. Why clay mask? Simply, because unlike harsh astringents, clay masks don’t interfere with the moisture-producing glands that naturally lubricate your skin. Besides, masks pull embedded grime and impurities from your pores, then tighten them.

But before using any suitable clay mask like a multani mitti mask, you must make the pores of the skin to open up to release their slime. How do you do this? Prepare a bowl of hot, steaming water and set it on a flat surface. Drape a towel over your head, close your eyes and lean over the bowl so that the edges of the towel fall just outside the rim of the vessel. Let the steam dilate your pores for at least 5 minutes, and then apply the mask. Keep it on for 15-20 minutes till the mask dries up and it begins to tighten around your skin. Then wash off with cold water, taking care not to rub the skin vigorously while patting it dry with a towel. And voila, you will feel so fresh and clean. Your dull, oily face will brighten up instantly and your skin will feel smoother. It has worked wonders for me; there is no reason why it shouldn’t work for you.

So go ahead and try this multani mitti mask this summer to get rid of that grease sticking on to your skin..

Take an herbal combination of water and carrot juice [1:1] and soak a piece of linen into it. Put the linen around your neck line and lay down on your chest. This is an excellent natural cool off remedy for summer relief.

  9. During summer many of us make sure to flaunt trendy sunglasses to protect our tender eyes, however we neglect the rest of the face. This will naturally make the eyes look paler when compared to rest of the face. To avoid this, generously rub sunscreen with SPF 30 with a broad spectrum over your entire face and body every two hours.

Here are some of the ayurvedic ways and home remedies to treat your body to reduce oil secretion and make it look good longer: a) Crab apple- Make a paste. Apply all over the face and neck. Leave for 20 minutes. Wash with lukewarm water. It is a rich source of alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) which tone, soften and moisturize dull oily skin. b) Sandalwood powder- Add a few drops of water to half a tablespoon of the powder. Apply the paste all over the face, neck (in upward and outward direction) and hands. Avoid eye area. Let dry. Wash with tepid water. This reduces wrinkles and fine lines while fighting acne and blemishes. c) Lemon juice, flour, turmeric powder- Make a paste. (Use all purpose flour) Plain yogurt can be used in place of lemon juice. Apply all over the face except the eye area. Let dry. Rinse. The acids in the lemon juice treat dark spots on the face clearing the complexion. Turmeric brightens the look. (Lemon juice might cause a tingling sensation). Feel the fresh and oil-free skin afterwords.

Another secret for keeping the face shine free is using Milk of Magnesia (MOM) on face, (For me, Phillips MOM works very well) give the bottle a good shake, then using a cotton wool apply a transparent layer of the white milk, spreading evenly as possible on your skin, after moisturising (and priming) the face and before applying foundation. if you notice white streaks then rub with fingers to smooth out and allow it to dry.

While regular cleansing removes surface impurities, clay-based masks will actually draw toxins from within the skin so they can be washed away. Clay firms, tones and refines the skin, promoting a smooth, supple, and clear complexion. Clay rematerializes and rebalances the skin. Masks must be followed by a Skin Conditioner and Moisturizer to prevent dehydration.
