BMI (Body Mass Index)

Weight is the keyword in health care. If you are in control of your weight, then you are in control of your life. So know your BMI and control your weight with a balanced diet combined with exercises. BMI stands for “Body Mass Index”, a ratio between weight and height is a reliable indicator of total fat, which is related to risk of disease and death. Those who are overweight or obese have a greater chance of developing high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease etc.

How to calculate BMI?
BMI is determined by calculating weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters squared. Let’s assume a person weighs 70 kilos and his height is 1.7 meters. His BMI would be 70÷(1.7x1.7) = 24.2

Well, it takes in your height, age, gender, and weight combined together to base whether or not you are at a healthy weight range for all 4. Once your range is determined, you are placed on a percentile chart which shows where you are within the different weight ranges of society

    the different BMI ranges are:
    Underweight - <18.5
    Normal weight - 18.5-24.9
    Overweight - 25-29.9
Obesity - BMI of 30 or greater

And they are put into a chart with percentiles:

Underweight- Less than the 5th percentile
Healthy weight- 5th percentile to less than the 85th percentile
At risk of overweight- 85th to less than the 95th percentile
Overweight-Equal to or greater than the 95th percentile
