Dos and Don’ts of hair care

Long lustrous flowing hair is a dream of every woman, but possessed only by a few. Nowadays hair is the most manhandled part by most of us. Cutting, dyeing, perming, crimping, coloring etc. again and again can play havoc with its natural texture and color. Some tips-

Don’t put your fingers in the hair too often

Most of the women have a habit of playing around with their strands. Pulling the strands with the fingers does the most damage. The cuticle gets seared. The result-loss of hair and luster. Let your hair thrive naturally.

Avoid usage of banana clips and hairdos like pony tails

The banana clip makes the hair chewed up. Pony tails do the greatest harm to the hair by pulling the hair tightly away from the scalp, putting pressure on the hair roots and thus resulting in hair loss. The banana clip makes the face look drawn back and long. So stick to gentle hairdos that soften your face.

Avoid too much coloring, perming, crimping of hair

Virgin hair is the most beautiful hair. Cuts, perms blow dries, artificial coloring all damages its natural flow. Try drying the hair naturally. Color, perm or crimp your hair only when the occasion demands it or when your feel like giving yourself a new look. Avoid doing it frequently.

Don’t grow long hair when you grow old

Long tresses on an old lady look ridiculous. The older you grow; your hair should be shorter. Dye, cut and keep in shape. That’s the real trick for younger looks!

Know your hair

Don’t let the nearest beautician to experiment with your tresses, the way she wants. Read hair literature, discover your type and learn to take care of your own hair. After all, you are your best judge. Refer articles under the category Hair care.

Hair styles make all the difference

Flashy clothes and dull hair styles are never apt. A better hair-style creates longer and more defined lines for your features. Change your hairstyle every now and then to crown your head with the beautiful crowning glory and also to feel a new person within you!

Avoid over-exposing your hair and scalp to the wind and sun.
Don't over shampoo - the heat and sun will already dry hair - too much shampoo will make it even dryer.
Don't use hot water when shampooing or rinsing your hair.
Do not brush on wet hair as Hair is weakest when it is wet and brushing can easily damage it.
Try to minimize the use of blow dryer as the strong heat tends to damage the hair, also the moisture lost makes them look rough and lifeless. Give your hair a break from that blow dryer, those curling irons and so many perms.
Use your fingertips, and never your nails, to gently scrub your scalp.
Use only a wooden or plastic comb never rubber.

Do’t apply conditioner or styling products to the scalp; they can clog pores and cause flaking. Restrict these products to the hair only, especially the ends. Don’t wash or rinse your hair in hot water. Hot water dries hair just as it dries skin. It also opens the hair cuticles, which makes it more absorbent. This is a particularly bad idea if you use styling aids - gels, creams, mousses - because they will absorb into the hair, weigh it down, and make it look greasy. Stick to a warm or tepid temperature

The average female needs 9 hours of sleep a night! This is time your body needs for proper cellular repair. Use your time off during the holiday season to catch up on sleep, before resting, apply a hair mask or oil. Wake up with shiny hair and a healthy scalp. Try some Organic enriching hair oils.

Brushing your hair can be the cause of a lot of breakage. Don't use a brush with plastic balls on the ends of the bristles, as they are the worst, apparently. A wide tooth wooden comb is good to prevent both breakage and static - comb your hair out in sections from the bottom up. Be careful when combing wet hair - it's far more prone to breakage then - and *never* brush wet hair

Some herbs are very helpful in treating your hair against dandruff and have antiseptic value. They include Lavender and tea tree. Soybean oil, corn oil and safflower oil are vegetable oils which act as good moisturizing and conditioning agents in the natural hair care therapy.

Don’t brush your hair when it is damp or in wet condition. Combing your hair when it is wet can cause breakage of your hair. So, always try to allow your hair to become naturally dry before you tug it with a comb

You should comb your hair with out tangles. Tangles can lead to breakage of your hair Washing hair for every three days is essential. This will not let the dust to stay in your hair. You should apply oil before one hour of your head bath. You should use the hair shampoo which has fewer chemicals in it.

Honey also helps to moisturize a dry scalp. One age-old recipe suggests that 40 to 50 drops of honey can be added to a pint of water, to make a honey lotion for the hair.

When combing long and medium-long hair, start from the ends layer, and when they are ready (not ruffled), comb all hair length. This will make it easier to brush your hair without damaging it and without tousling it

Growing hair has nothing to do with how you treat your hair. Treatment only affects how good your hair looks and feels. The truth is that once the hair leaves the scalp it is no longer “alive” and so, while you need to take steps to keep your hair healthy, efforts to make it grow should be focused on the scalp

"Iron deficiency, which leads to the reduction of the number of red blood
cells in a condition called anemia, can also cause general thinning of
the hair. Zinc deficiency, often accompanied by skin diseases such as
psoriasis, can also lead to hair loss and diffuse loss of hair. Vitamin
B12 deficiency, commonly found in vegetarians because plant-derived food
do not have this vitamin, can also be responsible.

Try not to keep your hair damp and stay away from a blow drier. If you can follow through you should have your old hair back within a few weeks. And this time you will be extra careful with it.
