Split ends in the hair-get rid of them

split hair Of the many problems that affect the hair, split ends is the most common one. Split ends make the hair look frizzy and untidy. A common idiom is that they make the hair look like broomsticks-dry, dull and lifeless. However there are ways and means to take care of your hair so that they do not develop split ends.

Causes:
One of the main reasons why hair splits is their becoming excessively dry. The tip of the hair splits first, and, if untreated, even the roots of the hair get affected.

Other reasons of hairsplitting include regular bleaching or coloring, too much use of hair dryer and roller, back combing, combing of wet hair, excessive hot air or too much exposure to the sun, regular use of dirty combs, perming, use of too much hair spray, bathing in the swimming pool or the sea, stress and lack of nutrition for the hair.

Possible Suggestions for cure:

Remove dryness from the hair

Do not expose your hair to anything that results in dryness, like bleach, color, dye, perming lotion, hair spray and hair dryer. Also, regularly clean the hair.

Massage & steam your hair

Twice a week massage your hair for at least 10-15 minutes using warm coconut, olive or mustard oil. After this, steam your hair for 5-7 minutes. For this, dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap around your head.

This will ensure that the oil penetrates your hair and blood circulation in the roots improves, due to which the oil glands will secrete optimum levels of “sebum” or natural oils. Apart from this, wash your hair with amla (gooseberries) & shikakai. This will cure the dryness in the hair to a large extent. You may get an “ozone treatment” for your hair from a good beauty parlor.

Avoid exposing hair to strong breeze.

As far as possible, do not go out with your hair open when a strong breeze is blowing. At least, tie a scarf when you have to. Use an umbrella while going out in the sun.

Do not rub hair vigorously

Do not rub towel vigorously or comb the hair immediately after washing, as these may also increase the problem of split ends.

Hair packs for split ends

 1) Massage the root of the hair with a mixture of the yellow part of one egg, 2 tbsp lemon juice and 1 tbsp mustard or olive oil. Wash off after one hour. This will make the hair soft and lustrous.
2) Mix 1 ½ tsp mustard oil, 1 ½ cup tea extract, 1 egg yellow and juice of lemon in henna (mehendi) powder. Wash off after one hour.

Proper nutritious diet

A nutritious diet is also a requirement for split ends. Use quite enough of the sources of vitamins A, B and D, proteins and calcium in your diet. Milk, curd, cheese, malted grains, Soya beans, fruits, green-salads and green leafy vegetables are excellent sources of these. Non-vegetarians can include meat, fish and eggs. Drink a lot or water.

Walking & mild exercises

Take a walk barefooted in the morning and evening. Take mild exercise as well.

Trimming

Get split hair trimmed at regular intervals.

Brushing

Brush your hair before going to bed. This will activate the oil-glands to produce oil.

Include these suggestions in your daily routine and get rid of split ends.

  2. That's highly impossible. No hair pack can make your hair to split 'greatly' as you say it. It could be due to some other reason.

The only real solution for split ends is to have them trimmed off. It will help your hair look healthier. If you have regular trims, your hair also seems to grow faster.

you're not supposed to brush it a lot and you shouldn't use chemicals like hair dye too often. and if you use hot tools frequently, that could weaken the hair

Get a good haircut. If you like your length, then just get a trim. Then, wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner every other day. In between washes, if your hair looks oily, take a quick shower WITHOUT shampoo or conditioner. That way, you just get rid of the dirt in your hair.

besides cutting off the split ends, you have to stop doing what ever it is that is making your hair split like that. These following tips will help.
    1. treat your hair gently. Never, ever, brush wet hair. wet hair is very elastic and will stretch and split. Comb gently, do not pull at snarls. Even better is let it air dry before combing.
    2. limit hair styling products that contain alcohol which is very drying.
    3. Limit the use of blow dryers, curling iron and hair straightener appliances.
    4. Wash gently, and always rinse twice as long as you wash so you get all the shampoo out. condition, especially the ends, with a good quality conditioner.

Split-ends are a problem BUT they are preventable..If you want your hair to look and stay healthy, you need to be sleeping on a satin pillowcase. I had heard a lot about them from friends and also from my stylist. She told me that cotton causes friction leaving you with split ends and frizzes. It also is naturally absorbent so it pulls the moisture from your hair and skin. The combination of dried out hair along with weakened ends due to the friction that cotton creates causes your hair to break and also hair loss. I switched to a satin pillowcase and I’ve seen a huge difference in my hair and also with my skin. I don’t wake up with those pillowcase lines on my face in the morning either. I found a website that has a page devoted to the benefits of sleeping on satin and they had some absolutely beautiful prints and solid pillowcases. I found a gorgeous pastel flower print. The company is A Touch Of Satin. If you’re interested, their website is http://www.atouchofsatin.com if you want to read about the benefits. Well, I hope this helps you out.

Take small sections of hair and carefully twist them in a gentle downward motion. Any split ends will automatically stick out. Carefully snip into the twist with sharp scissors. Dont cut right through; just cut into the thickness to remove the damaged cuticles and give a natural layered effect. Be careful to cut roughly the same amount from each twist.

It is also a good idea to drink more water, particularly if you don't drink adequate water to begin with . You may even want to consider taking a supplemental vitamin to help your hair become more healthy and strong, so that your hair won't split.

To repair hair with split ends, trim your hair. And then have it trimmed regularly (every four to six weeks) in order to help prevent split ends in the future. For best results, trim off at least an inch of hair, or have it cut one-half inch above where your hair tends to

I actually use a concotion that makes my hair soft and it seals the split ends. It’s a mask made of honey, egg yolks, olive oil, and a ripe mashed avocado. Wrap you hair in a towel for a min. of 30 mins prior to washing and rinsing. You will enjoy the effect.

  13. The main cause of split ends is dry hair. Some hair is naturally dry and brittle, but hair can also become excessively dry as a result of using hair dryers, curling and straightening irons, and coloring, perming, and similar hair products. Split ends can also be a result of vigorous or hurried brushing, especially when the hair is wet. Overly tight braids or other hairdos and elastic bands can also cause split ends.

Hot Oil Treatment! For deep conditioning of your hair give it a hot oil treatment. This natural hair care remedy is perfect for preventing the split end problems resulting from dry hair as warm oil easily penetrated into the scalp and hair shaft making your hair more shine and flexible. Before this trim off your split ends from time to time and give them a treat. Give weekly once coconut oil massage to tame your fizzy hair. Avoid shampooing frequently as this takes off your natural oil from hair and scalp. Remember massage helps proper blood circulation and strengthens the hair roots.

If you are growing your hair it is important to get the ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks, I like to call it a micro-trim, just nipping the ends. A deep conditioner is important too. Try Rescue by Redken. Be sure to only color the new growth of your hair, it is not necessary to recolor the ends. If you see that your ends are fading about the last 5 minutes of processing wet your hair and shampoo it, being sure to not rinse out the color, mix the shampoo and color already on your head, this will refresh your ends. The deep conditioner will help with the frizz but you can always use Silk Therapy from Biosilk. If you are still seeing a problem with split ends try a split end mender, like Ego Boost from Bed Head.

    1. cut the split ends out.
    2. condition your hair twice every after shampoo.
    3. you can use honey or mayonnaise or raw white eggs.
    4. after having a bath, put a hair serum ( i used natural plant). it's really good. i don't know if it's available in your country. or maybe you use hair oil from WELLA, it's also effective but more expensive than natural plant. it's what im using.
